A MIG 25 or 27 defected to Japan in the late 80s and after after the G2 guys were done with it we got to go look at it.

The pilot showing it to us showed us this stainless steel blade looking device in front of the air intakes. He said it was a arresting net cutter that they use on carrier based aircraft so the netting doesnt get in the intakes.

I said but this is a land based aircraft? He told us the Russians had gotten their hands on an old Navy F4 and copied everything off it even if they didnt know what it was for.

Wonder where they got the design from...

Two airplanes designed for the same specific purpose will look similar even when designed independently, multiple designs of a hybrid space vehicle will end up with similar characteristics based on the aerodynamics involved no matter who designs it.

shame our programs couldn't cooperate more. The Buran is arguably better than our shuttle.

More maneuverable and had jets to fly in atmosphere so it wasn't just a dead stick gliding paperweight every landing.

Mig-25.

A bad arse plane.

Tough as shite, and could go nearly as fast as a SR-71(yet the one flight that achieved Mach 3.2 caused so much engine damage they had to be replaced.

Would love to explore that, but I'd rather not get shot attempting to get to it

Yeah, that's not what happened here. There is a lot of stolen technology in there.

They stole tech, but the Buran made some improvements.

Being the USA is liking kicking arse in Civilization V and sending your spies out and after waiting for them to steal some new tech they tell you that you have eclipsed the other in research.

USA would steal tech if they could, but we can't.
