I still have no clue what he was saying, but I could sing the Soviet National Anthem as a 6-year-old and still can today thanks to WWE Hall of Famer Nikolai Volkoff.

And you are correct. As patriotic music goes, it's one of the world's best examples. It has everything one wants in a national anthem. Instantly recognizable, powerful, swelling music.

All art sucks under totalitarianism. Their architecture was particularly repulsive. The only literature that was good was that which protested the regime, like Dr. Zhivago.
Russia’s old national anthem, though, that was the boss. The 1812 Overture, with the Frenchy and Russian anthems, is inspiring.
