True, but the forests need to occasionally burn to pave way for healthy new growth. It's the cycle of life, believe it or not.

Sure, but when the majority of these fires are due to arson, it is not exactly Mother Nature doing her thing.

He wasn't aware of mountain forest fires and he lives in Greenville, SC.

Is he visually and nose blind? I live in Simpsonville (Greenville burb) and we have had smoke for days all the way down to Lexington county. Yesterday was pretty clear, but my son's football practice was cancelled due to air quality warnings. The wind is supposed to shift again tonight and tomorrow with a cold front moving in. The smoke may return for the weekend.

Drove from Lexington to Gatlinburg last weekend and you could just see fires burning everywhere driving down 75.

The worst was coming back through Kodak on Sunday, there were parts where the smoke was so bad you couldn't see more than 100 yards in front of you. I couldn't imagine living with that all day, the smoke was burning my nose/throat driving with my windows up.

It was bad in the NE ATL suburbs one day last week. Suspect we'll get it again with the front this weekend.

Possibly true, but generally when natural fires are snuffed out, long or short term depending on site, the result is an increased fuel load in the woods, and when a fire does break out it's catastrophic.

Aren't the Appalachians mostly or predominately hardwood forests though? I'm asking as I have no idea.

We need a blanket rain for 24 hours.

Plus side: The ground will be really fertile at least

How is everyone handling the smoke? It has gotten pretty bad at times.
we good in S/E Louisiana right now, however, once grinding is over and we start burning the fields - it gets kinda rough.

Wife is an elementary teacher, and the kids haven't been allowed outdoor recess in over a week. Said they are going batshit crazy.

Really? I live in Sugar Hill/Suwanee and it really hasn't been that bad. I understand they're trying to keep the kids safe but damn.

Particulate matter in the young lungs, or elderly transcends what you can see.

I moved. Changed residence after fires in northern end of California interior valley made it impossible to see across the street.

Eventually moved again. Been some big out of control fires. Had to evacuate. Ugh.
It's going to pour Saturday and we are all grateful.

Been negotiating with wife to abandon ship, sell and move to Hawaii. Now that Ryan is planning to castrate Medicare I have to look at Mexico. What a monster. And going to increase war spending. %$%#%$$

You must be illiterate because I said in my post that "I flew to South Carolina 2 weeks ago" which means I spoke to my brother 2 WEEKS AGO.

I made a thread about this on Wednesday. Any updates for the western NC area, Nantahala region? We are going up there next Friday, or are supposed to, for vacation. These a holes won't give a refund so I feel
Stuck.

It's only money. Some companies are giving refunds anyway. Ask again.

I was in Asheville on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and it wasn't bad on Wednesday and not even noticeable yesterday. However when I drove about 10-15 minutes East on I-40 in Swannanoa/Black Mountain the smoke was really bad and was still noticeable about an hour away from there in Hickory.

6 days ago at Lake Lure, NC

Controlled fire last weekend to prevent further damage at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. They are back open now but don't know about the smoke.
