My family took our annual float trip on the Current River in South Central Missouri over the weekend. It seemed like nearly every group we met was from southern Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, or Louisiana. It was a southern invasion of good folks who like to talk college football and toss back cold beers in stupid hot weather.

Was this just a fluke this year, or are the clear, cold Missouri streams becoming a destination for southern travelers?

Can't say I've ever thought of any place in Missouri as a destination for travel

I would take the Mountain rivers/streams in East TN/Western NC over anything in Missouri.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if the folks from Tennessee visiting were from West TN which might as well be another state in terms of natural beauty.

I didn't know anyone went to Missouri on vacation until I watched Ozark.

They actually come up here to hunt more than float.

Several on here who own land or hunt Missouri for deer and the such.

I'm sure they are very nice, too. Any spring-fed river with a rock bottom, plenty of water, and steep bluffs is going to be about the same wherever you find it. Is there something about the rivers in TN and NC that make them extra-super-special?

We have our share. The whole world can't be expected to be as sophisticated as rural Louisiana.

I googled 'current river missouri' and many of the pics make the old prop stop thread pics look classy.

Like I said, lots of southerners.

In truth, the water patrol has been much more aggressive in recent years making sure things don't get too out of hand on the rivers. But then, you're always going to have your river rats on a hot Saturday afternoon at the public accesses. It's about the only kind of culcha we have in south Missouri.

Gotta love folks from the Deep South calling other states white trash.

I'm not even going to argue about it. Campgrounds are trashy as frick and river campgrounds in the summer are like a low-income area Wal-Mart with only the white trash and none of the black trash.

Vacation rental houses on the rivers are the only way to go. Going during the week is an even better choice.
