The reliability of antigen tests....How many cases do we really have of Covid-19

USA Today(McPaper)
This one sentence within the article speaks volumes: "For a case to be listed as official, Vermont requires confirmation with a PCR test. "
Is it just a coincidence that Vermont has the lowest Covid-19 case rate in the United States? Less than a 1/3 of neighboring New Hampshire. And how many Covid deaths may have been classified as such due to a faulty positive?

Dozens of people who took quick-result coronavirus tests at a Manchester, Vermont, clinic in July were told they had the virus, only to be informed days later that more accurate lab tests concluded they didn't.
quote:
On July 1, an 18-year-old on a family vacation from New York, who had displayed symptoms for four days, tested positive at Manchester Medical Center in Vermont. Five more people tested positive July 10. Those initial cases emerged during the town's busy tourist season, potentially infecting others at gatherings such as barbecues, soccer games, restaurants and bars. Through July 17, 64 people tested positive and about half of them had symptoms, said Janel Kittredge, Manchester Medical Center's chief medical officer and owner.
The clinic faxed the results of each positive antigen test nightly to the Vermont Department of Health. For a case to be listed as official, Vermont requires confirmation with a PCR test.
The state Health Department said it could confirm just four cases from the Manchester clinic. The state set up a pop-up clinic to test hundreds of others before concluding there were no signs of an outbreak.

And like what happened with the false positive outbreak with the NFL players... extrapolated out... how many thousands at minimum nationwide were false positives ??

No one should be surprised that the Trump government can't do something as simple as make a accurate test for the a virus.

hey retard, tell us how many times you've taken a medical test that was created by a presidential administration? the saddest part is you're probably smarter than over half the liberals.

Most of the people in the federal government who would be involved in development were there before Trump. And it would have been just as much a disaster had it happened in the second Obama term. We were not prepared for this then or now and only the truly ignorant think otherwise.

I know you're trolling but even a troll shouldn't expect the government to be able to make a good medical test.

Probably because shite institutions like John's Hopkins has ulterior motives which do not include providing unbiased information for the well being of all Americans

At least 50 million in the USA. I'm about 99% sure I had it but never got tested.

About 1/2 of the total number.

Seems to me that if the antigen tests have a fairly high false positive rate, then they should be treated like a screener (like genetic testing in pregnancy), and screen out the negatives and screen in the positives for PCR testing with a very low likelihood of false positives (unless a lab error or something similar). Although PCR tests have a fairly high rate of false negatives, particularly the earlier the infection. But hopefully, a screening process would allow time for that to be less of a concern.
