People in the south see public transit as something for the poors. Maybe other places see it differently.
B/c it is, and i don't like my tax money going towards it.

Also, just connecting downtown for home football games will be a great economic injection into the downtown area.
shite, even for baseball and basketball games, people of all ages can go the bar and restaurants downtown before and after, ride the trolley, and not worry about parking, DUI's, etc.
ETA:
That's just a major perk of it that I know I'd use 5 or 6 times a year even though I don't even live in BR.
My dad lives downtown in a renovated 100+ year old house and his whole neighborhood has seen insane improvements the last 10 years.
And parking at LSU blows so much.

whose side were you on for the west end trolley?

Everything has changed in the past 5 years. Tigerland has waned in popularity as downtown has become THE destination for the over 21 crowd.
Gentrification has been in full swing north of campus along nicholson as entire blocks have either been fixed up or razed to make way for midrise complexes.
Massive 5 story mixed use developments and business parks are under construction, recently completed, or in development along the entire stretch between the north gate and the bridge.
Downtown has seen a huge building boom in hotels, condos, and apartments with over 1000 units coming online between this year and next.

I know two families who rode the trolley downtown one Friday night in the late summer to go out to eat. Before they got off, their driver assured them service would continue until 10 p.m. But when they arrived at the stop at 9:45 p.m.,
here is why you fail.

Had no opinion really, but sided more with not wanted it if I had to pick.
Nashville is a different animal though.
What Nashville needs is a full fricking train down the median of 24 connecting Chattanooga and downtown Nashville (and a couple other stops) with a stop in Murfreesboro. 24 is a nightmare and a bottleneck.
ETA:
Nashville traffic is so fukd though.

Dude, me either, but 24's bottleneck backs up 40, 440, and ends up affecting 65 because of this.

Downtown is THE destination for the residents of Central, Baker, Zachary, and Denham Springs and some of the north baton rouge.
It is not the destination for the over 21 crowd that goes to LSU.
You always seem to be in the BR threads that involve fixing the city but you come off as someone that doesnt live here and actually see the areas you talk about with such conviction.

cuz the fricking antioch-ers with the rice burners are weaving through traffic and causing wrecks all the time.

I would say the same thing about you.

Really bad comparison. In NYC people pay lots of money for their own parking spot. In BR you can park just about anywhere for free.
Other than shite traffic during rush hour it's much easier to drive wherever you need to go... and there's almost always ample parking.

Driving and parking downtown sucks though. And driving and parking on LSU's campus is a fricking catastrophe.

I do live here in mid city and have for the better part of a decade. My father has commuted to downtown from St. Amant my entire life. My grandma lived in Broadmoor. I disagree with your assertions. The only bar around LSU that my over 21 friends will touch is Bogies. Most go downtown for a night out. As for just laid back drinkin', we usually hit up the cove since one of my friends works there.
Last time I went to Tigerland (Halloween), I felt really old as practically everyone there was underage.

not you, that's why the trolley flopped.
If something designed to help people get to and from bars/restaurants downtown, what good does it do if it stops rolling before 10?

So downtown isn't filled with all those people?

Downtown is filled with tons of different types of people. The residential market has been booming, both in Beauregard/Spanish town and in a number of high rises, such as the Commerce Building. Several new more upscale bars have opened recently and are soon to open. It's not just Denham trash fighting people at City Bar, no matter how much you wish it was.

This. Downtown is basically just waking up after its long (post happy-hour nap) at 10. The main demand for transportation for barflys is between 10 and 2 so they can get there, get plastered, and get home safe without getting a dui.
