This is only for the Slidell location....this would not open the door up for any other casino in the parish

other than Mandeville, most of the Mississippi coast is classier than St.Tammany parish. Bay St Louis has very little crime/white trash/degeneracy and it has two casinos.

If they wanted to open up a casino in Mandeville or Madisonville they would have to go through this same process....it would come to a vote.
This vote is strictly for the Camellia Bay location....
The camel's nose is a metaphor for a situation where the permitting of a small, seemingly innocuous act will open the door for larger, clearly undesirable actions.

I support it
I’m not a big gambler but I’m Tired of the government telling us we can’t do stuff
Full disclosure- I will likely benefit somewhat and have friends that will make a lot of money

I will explain why I am against it. I live in Mandeville. I used to live in New Orleans, and I still have a condo in New Orleans. When I lived full-time in New Orleans, I supported Harrahs, the riverboat casinos, and the lottery. I am not against gambling but I don't particularly enjoy it, or hanging out with gamblers (very boring to watch people stare at slot machines for hours). I thought gambling would be good for New Orleans, and New Orleans needs it to keep up with other tourist destinations for adults. St. Tammany is doing fine without gambling, much better than Orleans. It is a prosperous Parish, and the people here are pretty happy with how things are. We don't desperately need the alleged extra revenue, and Slidell is never going to be a big tourist destination. If you want to gamble all night, you can just go to New Orleans or Mississippi. If you want to live in a nice house at reasonable price, with good schools, and little to no crime, you live in St. Tammany. I don't want or need St. Tammany to be more like New Orleans (quite the contrary). There are already new restaurants and places to go out opening here all the time, without the need for a casino. In fact, I like to go to The Blind Tiger in Slidell, as it is now, which is right where the casino would go. The casino might ruin the vibe there. The Mayors of Slidell and Mandeville are against it. The Slidell police are against it. The St. Tammany Parish Sherriff is against it. I also can't stand that Drew Brees is pushing for this when he doesn't live here, and never has lived here. He doesn't get to vote. He can push for another casino in his own neighborhood. Otherwise, he should stay out of it, imo. I won't lose sleep over it if it passes, but it is not the direction I would prefer for the Parish. I think St. Tammany has done quite well by not being just like the other Parishes around here, and people are already moving here in droves.

There is certainly language in the Act that appears to limit the location, but the way the different sections of the different acts read together seems like it could be construed more broadly.

Same here. Its a nice boat ride there for lunch or dinner and having a busy marina there from the casino would ruin it. Also, one of the homes right there by TBT hosts a couple concerts during the summer and tons of boats anchor out there in that canal. That could also possibly be ruined.

If I was Slidell, I would have bid the project out to multiple gaming companies and the finished product would definitely be exponentially more premium and well kept than what they may get here.
Unfortunately, the company that owns the license is using the license they had at a failing property in Shreveport/Bossier and wants to move it to Slidell because that market was too saturated to build a better property to attract more visitors.
Actually, if the vote fails, the company that owns the license may have to surrender it back to the state if they don’t reopen back in Shreveport/Bossier.
I believe state licensed casinos have to operate and pay fees to the state otherwise the state can require them to return the license unless they have an excuse to stay closed for an extended period of time for things like Hurricane damage or now COVID. COVID is their current reason for not reopening, but they have been trying to move to another location. If my memory is correct, they first tried to move to Tangi, but that was about as receptive as a turd in a punch bowl.

Exactly. The fear is that a future gambling licensee that is struggling in Shreveport or Lake Charles or Baton Rouge will see success in Slidell and start asking the state for permission to move their license to Mandeville/Madisonville. Many of us would prefer to make it known from the outset that St. Tammany isn't interested in casinos.
