Due to the pandemic and Catholics unable to attend mass, the Pope tells all Catholics to take your Sin DIRECTLY to God. The Christian faith of Catholicism is officially over.

Interesting revelation that absolutely isn't on the front page still.

So the way it’s supposed to be?

Among other things.

Isn't this similar to the Lutheran way of atoning for their sins?

Can you explain to us non-Catholics? It seems pretty straight forward to me.

Really??? I hope this is sarcasm, but if not I'll try to explain it in simple terms. Catholicism is the belief that it's parishioners take their sins to a priest. The priest then grants them forgiveness.
Based on Old Testament times where people brought their sacrifice to the priest to offer up to God. You HAD to go through the priest. Once Jesus died on the Cross, that veil/barrier between the priest and the Ark of the Covenant was rent/torn. Meaning Jesus paid the price by his death, that now allowed every person to appeal to God directly. Hence the Protestant religion. So for the Pope to now say you can take your sins to God yourself???????? One doesn't need Catholic priests

The Catholic church is the only true church. Protestantism is not real Christianity, it is a bunch of "ecclesiastical communities". An unmarried priest who devotes his life 100% to god has more spiritual authority than some preacher who doubles as an insurance salesman.

This post shows that you and a lot of people don’t really understand confession, Catholicism, or the role of priests. Most people associate confession as something negative, and it’s not. It’s just spiritual guidance.
Priests are human and go through the same things we do-depression, anxiety, etc. Their role is to provide guidance and to help people if they want it. They’re not punishing you or sentencing you to hell. They’re very well educated, and I enjoy talking to priests because most are compassionate and understanding.

I understand the Pope just stated that neither he nor his priests are needed as intermediaries between humans and GOD. Go to God yourself!!!!!

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Eph 2:8-9.

OP cut off an important part if the statement:
quote:
“Do what the Catechism says,” the Jesuit Pope stressed, “it’s very clear: if you don’t find a priest to hear your Confession, talk with God, He is your Father, and tell Him the truth: ‘Lord, I’ve done this, and that, and that . . . I’m sorry,” and ask Him for forgiveness with all your heart, with the Act of Contrition and promise Him: “Afterwards I will go to Confession, but forgive me now.”

Not as straightforward as it sounds. The Pope is basically invoking canon law:
quote:
Can. 961 §1. Absolution cannot be imparted in a general manner to many penitents at once without previous individual confession unless:
1/ danger of death is imminent and there is insufficient time for the priest or priests to hear the confessions of the individual penitents;
2/ there is grave necessity, that is, when in view of the number of penitents, there are not enough confessors available to hear the confessions of individuals properly within a suitable period of time in such a way that the penitents are forced to be deprived for a long while of sacramental grace or holy communion through no fault of their own. Sufficient necessity is not considered to exist when confessors cannot be present due only to the large number of penitents such as can occur on some great feast or pilgrimage.
