I am in the exact situation. I could work from home but someone has to be in the office to keep the trains running for our care givers taking care of patients. I make too much to get any stimulus money and I am working 60+ hours per week at the office. But what aggravates me the most is all of the assholes sitting at home trying to justify their work from home by trying to schedule all these Web Ex and Zoom meetings and presentations that I don't have time for right now.

Seems a little whiny

Most people I know are "essential" and most are working from home. It has its ups and downs. Sounds like a shitty situation if you have to continue going in (unless it can't be done remotely).

I'm glad I'm not stressed the frick out like half the people I know. I'll take working for my money over 600 bucks a week wondering whether my career has just hit a landmine.

I really thought this subtle brag "essential" thing was a joke but apparently it's not

I've gone to work every day of this like normal.

Mostly I'm just thankful to have a good job with security and benefits. Yeah it would be nice to have a little stay-cation, but I'd rather this than looking into unemployment claims.

ETA: The traffic situation has been awesome, though.

EATA: I should be getting a stimulus check as well, will spend most locally.

thats exactly the "benefit" youre getting out of all of this. Just be thankful that youre not affected by all of this. Im sure that if you were on the flip side and not sure when/how much money was coming your way and how you were going to afford your mortgage that you would wish that you were able to into your office and work 40+ hours a week unaffected...

You won't get a lot of serious answers on here, but I am in your exact situation. Business as usual at my office, and no stimulus check.

Just know that you are doing the right thing and are better than the clowns who think they are cool because they are drawing unemployment.

Welcome to America where 100% of taxes are paid by only 50% of the population already. Now a large portion of the tax paying base are unemployed.

What did you think was going to happen? The government doesn’t make anything, it appropriates. Who does it appropriate from? Those who have it to take from. It ain’t socialism but it’s not far off.

Congrats on all of your hard work though. I’m sure it will be better served for the common good.

So many “high earners” are mad about not getting a $1,200 check

So quit your job, make $41,600/year in unemployment and stimulus cash, and stop whining.

Lots of us are working harder, still going to the office some, learning how to telecommute, and picking up other's slack. Hopefully your employer remembers that come bonus or raise time.

I was deemed unessential for all of one day.

And then they realized they fricked up.

It's been 12 hour days ever since.

I don't mind the working.

I don't mind the others at home.

I mind the fact that I'm receiving no additional compensation for doing 8 separate people's jobs better than they usually do them.

Well I guess that’s my point. I suspect a whole lot of people will end up getting bailouts to the point of not being impacted.

Believe me I’d much rather be in control of my own financial situation here. Just frustrated.

Cry me a fricking river. I make too much to get a stimulus check AND I’m exposed to virus 9-14 hours a day, 5-6 days a week.

Suck it the frick up or quit your job and get some of the free money.

But will you in the future when things return to normal? If not then that should tell you something about where you're working

I get your frustration. Im prepared for downvotes. Essential personnel get one bitch session then it’s back to work. You need a pep talk.

Your blessed to have your family and your health. Someday your children will thank you for leading your family through this. They’re able to be safe everyday. You have a good job, and others depend on you (whether they know it or not). You have a strong work ethic and will continue to bust your arse when others will not.
Yes, there are some that are getting handouts, they may need them or they may not. They may or may not have consequences later for taking advantage of the situation. But you would do the right thing regardless. Your life is continuing as normal when everyone else’s is getting “easier”. Not everyone has the mindset that you do. America was built and thrives because of people like you. You do not get handouts because you choose to get up everyday and bust your arse.

At the end of all this, at the least, you’ll know that you did what you had to. The tough road, throwing your family and the stress of many others’ on your back, sucking it up & dealing with it. You’ll know that you were honest with yourself and set a good hardworking example for your children.

If this all goes to shite, then it wasn’t your fault.

I don't really care. Doesn't bother me.

Because I know how anxious I personally would be if I were sitting by a pool due to not being able to work.

Be proud, be thankful.

My wife is in super high anxiety mode. I'd rather be at work than at home being reminded to wash my hands and not touch my face all day.
