The perspective is still out of whack on Covid-19

This has never been about the death rate of the virus. This has always been about healthcare officials concerned about lack of capacity keeping them from being able to function. Even if all coronavirus did was give people pneumonia without killing them, that many people filling hospital beds would keep them from saving lives for the every day life threatening conditions like car wrecks and heart attacks.

Healthcare had one play to make, highlighting the worst case scenarios to get We The People to change our behavior and slow the spread down. To be fair that's exactly what they should do. We don't want our healthcare system weighing Lives vs. Dollars.

Where different decisions could have been made are congress and the president. That is where the Lives vs. Dollars conversation should be held. But choosing who dies is rarely a politically expedient choice, and when you're up for re-election in 8 months...

If this hadn't happened in an election year or if the president (any president) was in a second term, I do wonder if things would have been handled any differently.

An estimated 80,000 Americans died of flu and its complications during the 2017-2018 flu season, according to the US CDC.

I like how this number keeps scaling up as the coronavirus situation gets worse.

It's a lot like COVID-19 in that respect.

If have fewer people will say 'we over re-acted'

If we have more they'll say "you shoulda done more'

Except that you fail to mention there is no treatment for corona or vaccine

All those other deaths are preventable and treatable including the flu
