Oh shite, the government wasted money on that house? That is a problem indeed.

Are you too uneducated to see the coorelation between fiscal irresponsibility at the government level, and wasteful spending on the consumer level?

Now that's just genius. While we're at it let's pay professional athletes minimum wage, tax lottery winnings at 100%, and prevent parents from buying Christmas presents for their kids.

Try again. I'll wait.

why do you give a shite? its their money. do people chastise you for eating out at a nice restaurant instead of eating rice and beans for every meal. the end goal is the same and you could save a ton of money. Losing money on that house to them is like you splurging for a $200 meal with your significant other. its all relative. the house served the purpose they wanted it to. if they weren't happy with the outcome they wouldn't have sold it.

Here we go again, posting about more real estate and your OP is way off. In addition, how anyone can say she lost money on the house is beyond me. without knowing what she spent to build it, how could it be determined how much money was lost?

Did they pay $18 mil for it to be built, or was that what they listed it for?

fricking terrible analogy. What does taking a 12 million dollar loss on a house have to do with what I decide to eat?

How do you know that?

The original asking price ($18 million) does not reflect what the house cost the Pennington's to build it.

Why are you so upset what someone else does with their money? How does that affect you?

The asking price can't be that far off from the build cost. What decent real estate agent would advise their client to list their home for millions over the actual appraisal value or what the comps and market support? You would have to be dinged out of your fricking mind to think that the house appreciated in value since the build date given the state of the real estate market in Baton Rouge. People on this site truly are retarded.
