The same radio station also said he had to "research" cowboy lingo in order to write the song

WTF? He played Red Dead and used the words “horse” “old town road” and “tractor”.
None of those is truly cowboy lingo.

The kid just made some catchy rhymes, found a catchy beat and got the right exposure

Give me a beat, and I’ll give you lyrics.

As the kids say....bet.

I don’t know that I would have known about a semi-mainstream rap song like that at that age.

I remember listening to “wanna be a baller” in the bathroom on my boys tape deck Walkman in the 4th grade

Can someone explain what I saw on that? Assume I have been in a coma for 15 years, so really dumb it down.

Rap culture has taken the lead on influencing our youth. Parents don't talk to children, they just play music. Kids talk to each other about the music they here. Then they watch the videos of the songs on their phone (youtube). Very small percentage of kids hang out outside playing football now.

How do you think those kids are?

Earliest rap song I remember was either Gangsters Paradise or Crossroads by Bone thugs.

While being slightly disturbing, D.A.R.E has been proven to be an ineffective program at preventing drug use

Completely agree. I was a graduate for example.

But it would've been a worse problem for 80s/90s adolescents if we had pop culture figures, that we envied, in our schools endorsing drug use while teachers applauded.

Pretty cool stuff. Nothing wrong with having fun and singing along to a banger no matter the age.

Most modern country music isn’t related to cowboy life.

It has a few “cowboy words” in It, but it is distinctly urban. Not that it’s a bad song, for what it is. It’s just a bit of pop with no deeper meaning, a catchy hook and a decent beat
