I love them too, I have owned every M3/4 since the E30 debuted. But you still have to give props where it is due. I have been schooled by gents and ladies in spec Miatas. While I am not sure the Stinger will be the choice for the money (at least at MSRP) sometimes a Troy comes in and makes a statement and you simply have to recognize and not mention Bama would destroy them.

CR ranks Kia the 5th most reliable car company and that is ahead of Honda for example. The modern Kia may be a lot of things but statistically unreliable they are not. The perception of car reliability always lags behind reality.

The name Kia always makes me think of a black chick named Shaquallikia and they call her Kia for short.

The Stinger GT, on the other hand, with its twin-turbocharged 365-hp 3.3-liter V6, upsized Brembo brakes, adaptive damping suspension, 19-inch wheels, variable-ratio steering puts the Korean upstart on the radar screen of (mostly-German) entry-luxury sport-sedan shoppers. Kia says the Stinger GT’s price will come in at about $39,000.

I don't think that's a terrible price but I also don't think Kia has the brand recognition that could easily sell this car well versus Audi, BMW, MB etc. if this is a luxury car.
Look at Nissan with their Maxima, I'm sure they do at least ok on it but the perception imo is people think it's just a nicer version of the Altima, and I think people will think the Stinger is a nicer version of the Optima. Even though these 2 cars are made and priced to the luxury level, but put an average person who don't know anything about cars and tell them to choose between Stinger and a similarly priced BMW.. Most would probably choose BMW.

Kia marketing will have to do their jobs.

The new Kia _________ looks pretty tight, should never be uttered by anyone.

Exactly. My first thought is I'd rather pay that for a BMW. Knock it down to 25k and I'm all in, but I'm not paying 40k for a Kia.

That what I would have thought.. but J.D. Power report rated them the most reliable auto manufacturer in the world, #1 in least reported problems.

Still, Kia just can't get rid of that awkward look IMO, it's the grill that kills the car for me.

They are 'beamers', but in the spoken word. Go around saying 'bimmer' and you get your arse kicked.

Hearing "beemer" spoken just lets you know that person doesn't know enough about cars to bother talking to them about cars.

The problem that Kia has is it can't shake its past. Their reputation for being shitty cars will haunt them forever. Even though that isn't the case any longer, they can't compete with traditional luxury cars due to reputation. They have been able to hold and add to the segment of the market they are in, but trying to move upward is a an uphill battle. If they were pricing these things 10k-15K cheaper they could shore up a big chunk of the market, but no one is going to pay a luxury price for a Kia when you can just get a BMW, Lexus, Jag or Telsa for the same money.

I agree, people who needed extra special financing went to Kia.

bullshite.

We've owned 3 BMW's, and my initials are actually BMW because my dad liked them so much. Saying "beamer" in casual conversation is perfectly acceptable. Unless you're an elitist prick.

But this is the OT, so everyone is an elitist prick. Just look at some of the "but it's a Kia" reactions in this thread.

They still do and they will always have that market. Those people just don't understand how they are being duped though. It is kind of sad. They think because they can buy a brand new car at 10% interest that they have good credit.

They fact that they don't understand that lenders are willing to give anyone money to buy a car is lost on them. Financial education is extremely poor in this country

It won't, but it is still now worth paying $40k for. I would cop at $25k no problems.

Well, when everywhere else they go the best deal they can get is 23% interest. That 10% offer for a car with a 10 year warranty seems pretty good.

Not sure what I'll do when my hydraulic steering, naturally aspirated I6, manual transmissioned BMW dies. Cry.

True, but they don't understand the true value of a car. A car's utility is that it gets you from one place to another in a reasonable amount of time. That is it. I spend 30 minutes at most in my car per day. Why should I pay $300+ for that? I'd rather pay half and put the rest on my IRA or in my house. Cars are a depreciating asset or, as my friends and I put it, an accelerating liability. No need to put that much money into something that really doesn't have that much true worth.
