I have to give Broome credit for this. The old Baton Rouge website was atrocious and stuck in 2003. It was embarrassing. This looks good and seems to have everything covered in one place.

quote:

Baton Rouge government has launched a long-awaited city-parish website to replace the former site that has been operational for nearly 18 years, part of a yearslong effort to revamp the city-parish’s digital facade and streamline online services.

The city-parish paid $130,000 for the new site, a process launched by former Mayor Kip Holden before Mayor Sharon Weston Broome selected the firm, Civic Plus, to head up the overhaul. Civic Plus is a Kansas-based firm that specializes in designing municipal websites.

“Since taking office, one of my top priorities has been to revamp the way our city-parish government does business by making it easier, more intuitive, and accessible for all residents to request services and find the information they need as quickly as possible,” Broome says in a prepared statement.

130k for a cookie cutter template 'government' website

quote:

The new site features a “community voice” section where the public can comment on initiatives

could be prime real estate for trolling 'community leaders'

There wasn't someone in Baton Rouge that could do this for $130k? We have two rather large universities here. They don't have departments that teach this type of thing?

I was going to ask this, but I wouldn't know if there'd be some conflict of interest issues. Either way, good to know our taxes are going to some geeks in Kansas instead of our own geeks.

View Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome's 2018 report on the state of the City-Parish including a breakdown of the Broome Administration's year one accomplishment.

Notice that Mayor Broom's "accomplishment" is singular. Even her website knows she has done little besides schedule catered meetings.

From the news section:

quote:

BATON ROUGE, LA — February 15, 2018 — Today, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced the creation of a Blight Strike Team tasked with reviewing the blight elimination process and recommending administrative changes to improve blight remediation efforts in East Baton Rouge Parish.

“The Blight Strike Team brings together several community partners with an interest in swiftly and efficiently addressing blighted properties throughout East Baton Rouge Parish,” said Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. “I look forward to working with them toward solutions. Blight elimination is of vital importance to improving public safety and advancing economic development efforts in our communities.”

The Blight Strike Team will include community partners, City-Parish department leaders, redevelopment officials, and Metro Council members, and will work side-by-side with the Metro Council’s Blight Study Committee which will focus on code issues.

The fact she paid an out-of-state company $130,000 to build the Baton Rouge, LA city website is wonderfully ironic.

I mean, come the frick on. Not even in our home state? There are tons of capable people in the city that could do this. It's a beginner level website design.
