Have to grind it out now for the pay off in your late 30s and 40s. At least that's what I'm telling myself. I own a business, wife works almost an hour away and puts in more hours than I do, have 2 kids. I bring the kids to school, do the grocery shopping, cook all meals and do the lions share of house work. I was losing my mind between 30-34. But all that work I put in is starting to pay dividends now.

I think what you’re describing in the OP is fairly typical.. but i dont think it has to be that way. I think people just take what are supposed to be the ‘normal’ steps in life, and wind up feeling overworked, overscheduled, overeverythinged.... I dont have an answer, or a solution , other than to say i dont think that’s how life is supposed to be, or needs to be.. For me, downtime is very important, for a lot of us it is what’s needed to recharge your batteries so you can go back out in the world and be productive.

From the time your oldest child is born until your youngest child turns 10 this is about it.

95% of your time is allocated to things your family or job needs and there is very little time left for yourself.

When your kids get older try to find things you can do with them that you both enjoy.

For me it was coaching my kids youth sports teams and taking the kids fishing.

Once your kids get to be teenagers you get your freetime back, and then miss the time you could just wake up early and take your kids fishing without having to schedule the time with them.

When your family is young the days are long, but the years are short.

My oldest is leaving for college next year. It seems like she started first grade a month ago.

I felt the same way at the same age, but I have 4 kids. Luckily my employer sent me to get my MBA full time giving me the needed respite.

Sounds like you need a Jody.

I didn’t think it was possible to give you too much credit but I was wrong.

seems a bit weird to complain about a "never stopping" lifestyle on a message board where most of us are currently dicking off at work

I make less money than I'm worth at my current job but I'm staying because I have Fridays off and the work doesn't follow me home on the weekends. I also get 3 weeks PTO and a week of sick that they don't mind me using. I had a job where I was stupid busy with no time to fart and I was miserable. I'd rather make less and have more free time.
