Marietta GA.
Sandy Springs GA.
That's the only area I've been looking.
I'm sure other areas just around the perimeter of Atlanta have them as well.

after ten years of not getting netflix, you'll have like $1500 extra for a downpayment!

I see 2, yes only 2, single family homes on Zillow under $250,000. One is 624 sq ft and the other is 860 sq ft. Don't get me wrong, I like living small and would live in something that small, but lets get real here.
I do see some condos though if you don't mind pay $200/mo in association fees.

What do you do? You save money and put a larger down-payment on the home.
Just pull yourself up by the bootstraps.
Nevermind the crippling student loan debt, which is higher than the mortgages of decades past, the inflated cost of vehicles, compounded by the fact that the used car market was decimated by “cash for clunkers”, and the generally inflated cost of everything else, compared to previous generations.
The thing is, this situation is driving multitudes of people to political ideologies like socialism and communism.
The refusal to accept and address the current problems will result in a much worse situation for all of us.
You are essentially saying things like “don’t do what our generation could do because now it’s unaffordable” and that is kinda fricked up.

I am shocked it took us 10 pages to get there but we did. Great work baws.

The fact that you think people can save for a $40k down payment by not spending $14/mo on Netflix or $5 on a coffee, or by just not using Amazon tells me all I need to know.
^^ See Scruffy's list for the shite you can't avoid that actually matters that determines if you're able to save or not.
edit: and also rent. You have to live somewhere while trying to save for a down payment. Not sure if you've heard, but that somewhere has gotten a whole lot more expensive relative to income to decades past.

everyone is saying "why should a median income household be able to buy a median house?" and that's valid, i suppose
HOWEVER (stephen a voice)
the median income can hardly afford a little more than half of that
a 225k mortgage is about 1800/month on a 6k/month salary

starbucks is at least somewhat valid if it's a regular thing.
amazon can save you money if used properly and netflix can probably save you money as well (staying in an watching something as opposed to going out and spending money).

How dare you spend any form of money on any sort of entertainment.

I don't listen to am or fm radio.
But like I said earlier.
Tell people to spend less on things like coffee, lunch/breakfast, cars, and Amazon, and people on the rant will find ways to shite on that idea.
Because the alternative is the secret to saving money?

No it's just people like yourself thinking that we spend more than a sliver of our expendable income on this stuff.

I was making $60k/yr and I saved $15k for a down-payment on my first home.
Oh... I dared.
I took the $40k appreciation on the first home and another $40k that I had saved to buy my second home (50% more expensive) but within $100 of my prior mortgage payment.
It's a fricking miracle what tent camping vacations and driving Hondas into the ground can actually achieve.
But I'm sure the rant will find a way to shite on that too.

Someone is making Starbucks, Amazon, Netflix, and Tesla the kings of their industry.
Judging on the facts of how popular they are, I'm guessing that it is a lot of the same people who bitch about rent and housing.

Right. It's not that what he is espousing is "bad" or "wrong" per se. Most of us could temper our consumption.
It just comes off as tone deaf to say that all someone needs to do in order to make a major purchase, particularly in the current inflationary environment, is to make a few less visits to Starbucks.

We're not shitting on your success.
You just sound incredibly out of touch. It is fine, it is common in these threads by the "I got mine" crowd. And it really is fine. Just don't pretend like what is happening today isn't actually happening.

He's thinking we're out here buying Teslas in lieu of saving for a down payment
Meanwhile I just passed 180k in my 2011 toyota after fixing my passenger door with a $40 aftermarket part from none other than ... AMAZON!. What a twist that was
