How did that happen? War.

I think you and I are making the same point in a different approach, I agree 100%

ETA: I have a sort of deadbeat ex bil who has a degree from Auburn that was in the AL army guard for years, he has a couple of DUIs so they never would send him to OTS, when the Gulf War started ginning up and they needed bodies he didn't have too go but told them he'd go anywhere they wanted if they'd send him to OTS, they did and he has to have been one of the oldest 2nd lieutenants in the history of the army, I'm pretty sure he was in his early forties, made Captain and "retired"

Might be Anastasio Ver the second Filipino to graduate from West Point.

quote:

Twenty-seven native Filipinos attended West Point between 1910 and 1941, when the Islands were invaded by the Japanese. Of these, four failed to graduate (leaving 23 men), one had died (22), and three others were no longer in the Army (19). Three were in the U.S. when war broke out (16), and one more joined them before Bataan fell (15). Fourteen Filipino West Point graduates were on Bataan at the time of the surrender, with the remaining graduate holding out for one more month on Corregidor. Because two men apparently avoided capture, thirteen were Japanese POW’s. After parole, some worked with the underground resistance, others fought as guerrillas, and some grudgingly cooperated with the occupation government. Of the thirteen POW’s, six were ultimately executed.

LINK ]The Long Gray Line (1955)

Clip from the movie showing the class of 1915's graduation ceremony

FYI The CoC (Cadet of Color) was Filipino

ETA: Whoa just checked the movie's Wiki page:
quote:

Vicente Lim, who is shown graduating with the class of 1915, actually graduated in 1914
