Looks like he passed last week...

It really is sad how few WWII vets are still with us.

Yeah. Seems like not that long ago the last of the WWI vets were going on in. Now it’s the WWII generation that’s disappearing.

they are 90 something if they are alive.

There,were civil war vets
around when I was a kid.

Pretty soon Viet vets will be rare.

Everybody dies.

My dad would be pushing toward his 93d birthday if he were still with us...he turned 19 on the troopship in March 1945...

I saw a group of veterans from the 173d Airborne Brigade at the Pentagon (Vietnam) a couple of years back and was shocked to see how old they looked...

Then again, it's hard to believe that it's 27 years since Desert Storm and over 17 years since 9/11...

During the height of the War - 67 to 69 (before the Nixon withdrawals) the youngest cats showing up in the Nam during that era are staring really hard at 70 already. That same group forms the oldest cohorts of Desert Storm vets.

So, some guys who fought in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm are pushing 70/in their 70s.

Had pawn stars on in the office today and some dude brought in a flying tiger flag. Not sure if it turned out to be real or not though.

My dad is going to be 98 on February. He was on the Enterprise during the island hopping campaign towards Japan and during the kamikaze attacks.
He still has a small piece of the wing strut from the plane piloted by Tomi Zai that struck the ships deck and sent her back to the states for repairs.

Dad is still in good shape, and good spirits.

My great uncle flew a P-40 in China, and I own a vintage jacket from an original AVG ground crewman.

They all called themselves Flying Tigers after the US fully took over that outfit, but the last of the original AVG mercenaries died years ago.

We weren't exactly not fighting Japan prior to 1941.
