They wouldn't hear Train B because they were so close to Train A and it's loud enough to mask the sound. How hard is that to understand?
And my Dad worked for the railroad for 40+ years. He's talked a little about things he's seen but some he won't. One that comes to mind of when he saw a guy's legs sheared clean off when he tried to play "dodge" with the train.
