Same facts, two realities. Each side sees proof of its own story — justice vs. corruption, truth vs. power. The internet and media now trap us in self-reinforcing echo chambers. Outrage fuels the system, and the divide’s become psychological, not just political. The big question: can trust or shared reality ever be rebuilt, or is that idea already lost?

It’s tough, because both sides want to argue about the ‘facts’, but nobody can agree on what the ‘facts’ actually are. We live in a world full of confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance, mostly with people on both sides who can’t identify when they are experiencing life through those prejudiced lenses.

You are 100% correct. And the only ones who seem to be able to see this are the ones who don’t lean strongly one way or the other, politically. My opinions and viewpoints are constantly changing because I am very open to hearing both sides and forming an opinion based on what I know and not what the internet tells me.

I agree with you.

And the frustrating point is that there is really only one truth. The lie is what will cause the next civil war.

Relatively, Trump is making tremendous progress on draining the swamp (but it still won’t be enough).

Covid is either derived from a bat in Wuhan or escaped from a virology lab in Wuhan. it’s not a maybe thing. It either happened one way or the other.

The vaccines either stopped transmission or they didn’t. They didn’t but a gigantic portion of our society still to this day believes it does. There is a definitive answer.

WMD was either a fabricated lie that was a necessary means to and end or it wasn’t.

BLM was founded and perpetuated on a giant lie. There is no other way to interpret in actuality, but a GIANT portion of the country believes the lie and has acted accordingly.

It’s not just MY reality. There is reality and there is perception, and we should all always be seeking the truth.

The PT is on a predominantly Louisiana or southern based message board, with if I had to guess, mostly white Gen x or boomers. And some of y’all act surprised it’s MAGA I’d bet the majority of message boards are probably extremely liberal. In reality, most people, are in the middle in real life

When Q was a thing I thought this was going to be what happened to online discussion.

To be fair since web 2.0 in the early hears, say 1999 or so, it's just gotten worse and worse. With social media now funneling content based on your online behavior it's really really bad. Most people don't understand how the internet now works. They don't get they are the product.

All this being said, the Poli Board is just a sewer.

Any “political” board would be, even more “moderate” ones.

As someone who has been accused of being a political board regular, y’all worry about the political board way too much
Worried? I post there all the time. Maybe more than here. If I have anything to say to the poli board I say it on the poli board. I even posted over there to invite the guy that uploaded the graphic to participate in this discussion.

The disclaimer was because, regardless of your opinion on that board, you can probably admit that it's far more likely this thread would be bogged down with posters attempting to argue the thread topics in the screenshot if posted there, which isn't the intent of the thread.

And if you think the poli board is the sole manifestation of the polarizing effect the internet has had on national discourse that I'm describing, I don't know what to tell you.

Oh for sure, it's by far not the only one. Nor the worst one. There is just not a lot to gain from being on it. I do fall into it all the time. I have only myself to blame.

He was the top political guy at Rolling stone, covered MAGA 1.0 and trumps first election, then wrote a book about called Insane Clown President. He covered the politics and fraud of the financial crisis more honestly than anyone—wrote a great book called Griftopia.

Before those he wrote a book called The Great Derangment. Pre Obama, look into our efforts to bring democracy to the Middle East while going undercover at a right wing evangelical church. Was a regular on Democracy Now.

Guys background is solid. He’s one of the last bipartisanish muckrakers. I’m not surprised a MSNBC lapdog like you thinks he’s some MAGA fool over the Twitter files. Reality is he’s left of center but calls out the insanity on all fronts.

My comment was only in regard to folks on here who attempt to discredit any conservative poster by simply saying “lol head back to the poli board”

Your overall statement about the internet causing polarization in politics is spot on

Now only if we could get a liberal to admit that they’re a liberal on here…

FFS, what is y'alls hang-up with trying to make this about the pt? I've explained multiple times (starting in the op) that while the example used in the OP originated there, the purpose of posting it was to illustrate the [MUCH] larger topic of the internet's role in sorting Americans into opposing camps and then keeping them there through algorithmic hamster wheels and if a reverse is possible.

Dude my comment was based off other post and your entire graphic was based off PT board, calm down.

Yeah you right. It’s unsustainable.

The big picture is what what Art Bell described as ‘the quickening’

It's funny how you're always "not talking about you, bro" or "I was just joking" every time I respond to you.

Look at all the post regarding PT board, that was why I mentioned the makeup of it. And I said I also responded because of your graphic. I responded to you and others.

And I don't disagree with the premise of your thread. It's been discussed ad nauseam for a decade, and it's true, most understand that. My algorithm on FB is all firefighting and cooking and for good reason.
