Livingston Sheriff Jason Ard said that 75% of Livingston Parish is a total loss. This is an absolutely stunning figure he just threw out.

I live off of rody Rd. Between cannon and black bayou. I left about two hours ago. Any word on this area?

Anyone know if the 44/931 area is under the gun? I'm here now and been watching the ditches. They're raising slowly (1/2" hour) but I'm getting pretty nervous after hearing about St Mark.
All you can do is keep checking. Can you take a bike out a few blocks behind or anything? Do you have a lot of neighbors that around still?

If it were my family or friends and they lived along 431 or that was their only route out id advise them to leave. I have no numbers behind that opinion I'm just familiar with the area. What's going to happen to a house I'll happen whether you're there to see it or not. Leaving in a car and staying in a place you know beats the hell out of a boat evac and shelter any day of the week.

just saying I've had good experiences with the place.
Yeah as have I. They're legit on meteorological issues, and I enjoy their tropical weather discussions. There is also no denying that they tend to side on the "optimistic" side of weather discussions - they get excited about strengthening storms and whatnot. As a result, they can sound alarmist at times.

Depends on where on 431
431 was closed in several spots around 3pm when I finally left from that area.

So I'm looking at the Amite gauge at Denham(because the Bayou Manchac gauge doesn't work, but that's for another thread
) and I see it's gone down about a foot in the last 5 hours. Does anybody know what the level has to drop to at Bayou Manchac Point before Bayou Manchac would be able to flow the correct way again? And when that might occur?

Studying meteorology and studying hydrology are two different animals, as this thread and the media coverage has proven. My point is that these weather buffs and even actual mets are far from experts on flooding issues.
This. I actually worked on some flood modeling efforts during Katrina but have never really messed with it since then. Early on in this thread, I was asked a couple of times about flooding and pointed out that I knew very little about current flood modeling/forecasting and would defer to someone else. Luckily, supernovasky showed up for this thread.

So I saw earlier today water was rising on Bluebonnet between Burbank and Highland. Has that receded at all? Gotten any worse?
Have a couple friends that own Town homes in that Lakes at Bluebonnet.
One has a car parked but has been out of town. Wondered if they should be worried?

All of the neighbors are still here... we watched the ditches most of the day, and with the slow rise most of them went to bed pretty optimistic. I'm in a damn motor home in my dads driveway checking them every hour or so, think I may be the only one... Black Bayou isn't far from here, so I'm starting to get nervous.

She's a complete idiot. Watched the news and Merriwether and Grimes were talking, giving useful information. She sat there and played with her pen and nodded. She didn't say a word, thank goodness. Funny story, a few Christmases ago, she was ringing the Salvation Army bell at Walmart on College. She was attempting to sing carols. She sang the first verse of several and then made the rest up. When I exited, she was continuing her version of said carols. A few days ago, they were interviewing the fire chief about rescues, etc. She asked "have there been any fires y'all have put out?" Riveting. Put her out to pasture or something. She is useless.
