From what I understand there is supposed to be a diversion canal north of the city coming on line and that could help keep the rivers with less water flowing from up north, but still that's a shite ton of inches still dropped in a given area
Of course there still would have been flooding but this was to divert water AND help water move down the Amite much faster if I read it correctly. I have to think that would have saved a lot of neighborhoods.

I guess if the Alligator Bayou road gives out then the swap will overflow at a rapid pace. Hopefully it doesn't make it to us, but you just don't know at this point.
