Folks here have endured an unwarranted amount of hardship. Too much agony to stay and rebuild. It's traumatic for a lot of people.
So where are they going to move?
Also, are core industries being disrupted?

Yeah I've been looking at that Muddy Creek gauge skyrocketing. About to see the same thing on Fountain. I really really hope that backflow doesn't make it all the way upstream.

Not likely. Probably won't see anything receding there for another 24 hours.

the economic hit is going to be bad for us
Not that this is the time to discuss this, but there will be a massive demand for home repair and infrastructure contractors, funded by large infusion of government and insurance capital.

I can see a lot of people leaving. But the REAL Louisiana people will stay and rebuild. This event is on historic levels. I have lived here for over 40 years and have never seen anything like this. Even through hurricanes. This is REAL BAD......

No true Scotsman.
Other posters are right, cash infusion will give short-term boost to economy.

Not sure exactly where in greenwell springs, but my friend's sister's house has 4 feet of water inside.

Exactly. I foresee those who are mobile with job opportunities elsewhere to leave

A concern I heard about this morning for the bluff and dutchtown area would be if the alligator bayou road washes out. Water was coming over it this am and if it goes it won't be pretty. That road serves as a levee for some of this area.

Unfortunately the last observation on this gauge was at 2:15 AM today. So it's hard to say what is going on there.
