Basically the crest holds other tributaries from flowing downstream. Then may even flow upstream. Water will always find the lowest elevations. If the crest is higher than manchac bayou. Water will come upstream.

Can somebody explain what is the back flow for those of us who went to public school?

Search for posts from supernovasky and LSUJuice from last night - between 11pm and 1am. I think we explained it pretty well. I can try to copy and paste some of it in a minute.

I am waiting on info on Tiger Bend and Antioch road are.

My parents evacuated to my aunt and uncle's house near there yesterday. They are on Dianthus road which is off W Achord/Tiger Bend(looks like Tiger Bend/Elliot is nearby as well). I'm not familiar with that area at all(it's been years since I've visited them there). I can't get in touch with anyone right now to make sure everyone is ok.

Catching up on overnight posts and that video is insane. Dixie RV looks like a total loss...I really hope they had great insurance.

Basically when the tributaries get lower than the rivers they flow into the begins to flow backwards to the tributaries. Not good.

My parents live out there but are out of town. I'm going to check on things later. I'll post an update but I'm sure someone will beat me to it.

From what I can put together, it's fine now. If this back flooding stuff comes to fruition, maybe that will change.

I can't believe how horrible this seems to be from reading all of the stories on here and watching WAFB. What is fricked up is I would have no idea what is going on if I wasn't on this site, the MSM hasn't made a peep about it. On CNN.com, MSNBC.com, FoxNews.com there there is nothing.....it is unreal.

This is the back of Mallard Crossing on Hoo Shoo Too. Still has about 2.5 feet of vertical rise to get in his house. It was touching his fence last night at 10.
