A bit of difference in going to Register and actually being Drafted...this is nothing new.

I don’t get the rage and emotion over this. Of course being an only son doesn’t DQ someone from having to do their duty and register for the draft. Why is this even a thing to get upset about? It isn’t the government “taking your only son.” It’s a random selection/draft that your son has to be a part of just like everybody else’s sons.

Conscription is as old as war and man. This isn’t anything new.

Patriotism and Recruiting numbers are low. The chance of war with highly populated nations is high. A draft is never out of the question.

Yes all males have to register with SSS. But unless something’s changed, if you only have one male son to carry on the name they can opt out of combat deployments. Had two in my unit that opted out of Afghanistan for that reason. He may have to do a stateside deployment though.

WWII drafted my grandpa and both his brothers - why would an only son be an exception?
FTR - my boys aren’t going

Well he will be one "fortunate son"

The draft has been around for a while.
"Been around" but not implemented for 50 years aren't the same.

Seems perfectly predictable that some people may think that their child is an exception for some reason when they are not.
Uhh, no it isn't "perfectly predictable that some people may think their child is an exception" when the law clearly states that unless you're a student at service academies or a very few select other schools like the citadel, an illegal immigrant, or a female who has transitioned (fricking ridiculous this is even in there)...you have to register.
All of the other disqualifying metrics are up to the selective service...after you've registered. Anyone stating they "didn't know" is a fricking liar.

Didn’t realize we had so many draft dodging commies on this board
Proud to have honorably signed up for selective service

hell there won’t if Leftists control the country for another decade. You think a political movement that tells you what kind of car you can or can’t drive, what size soda you can drink, or that you have no say in whether your child has sexual mutilation surgery is going to draw the line at compulsory military service??? They’ll just call it an “unplanned career move” and start rounding up able bodied males.
5 downvotes from communist control freaks.

Parents, if your son is an only son and the last male in your family to carry the family name, he is still required to register with SSS.
Isn't there a movie about this?

Why doesn’t daughters have to register.
Women fought for equal rights, equal pay, etc….. yet don’t have to register for the draft, complain (sometimes that something is a man’s job) and don’t want to do it, etc….
Yes there are women who can put work men especially the soy boys of this latest generation

There will never be another draft in this country’s history
There is no reason to believe in never. Things change. If it was so certain that another draft wouldn’t happen, there wouldn’t be ads for selective service.
