He isn't. He is against politicians making their obviously false promises. Like they do on all levels.

I think the fact that the tax was nothing more than a crony money grab and the vote clearly gerrymandered in order to pass went right over yours.
Not at all. It still pisses me off.

But that doesn't change the fact that only Baton Rouge (and Baker) property owners pay the CATS tax yet CATS' service extends outside the city limits, including the Tax Crown Jewel SG so much covets, the Mall of Louisiana.

Why should anyone NOT in St. George have a say and why are the people in the city of Baton Rouge against what happens to people who aren't citizens of the city? Just pure human kindness? I'm sure that's it. Here's what I see... I see the city of Baton Rouge realizing that they have ignored the life-blood of their government machine. They are scared shitless that they won't have this money source that they depend on to run the city. They make ridiculous claims that various PARISH services will disappear and will have to be created and paid for if St. George forms. They claim racism, but have no EVIDENCE to back it up. They claim the Mall of Louisiana could have been put by Southern, but they "allowed" it to be put in the present location. In other words, they don't have shite.

You responded with some racist comment, and then ignored the math. Thats not addressing the facts. I live in st. George and there are no cats bus routes within miles of me. Its a BR service that happens to touch into st.George in a few places.

What I do know is this, people in Baton Rouge are scared. High crime rates and poor schools aren't exactly independent of each other.

Well the areas where there issues with high crime are in or near the St. George area. So what's your point? If anything, incorporation and breakaway district will weaken the schools in BR proper.

And BTW, the murder rate in the parish dropped 20% last year.

I'd like to think the new leadership won't allow shite like this to happen

So you believe the new leadership will tell all students "don't assault your classmates" and that will be that.

Gosh, why don't all school leaders think of that?!?

If sj leaves and takes all of their money, what kind of things will happen to br?

Sincere question.

I'm not really sure. Obviously, if the city budget takes a big hit, services would have to be cut and who knows what the trickle effect could lead to. My biggest fear is an overall disinvestment and population shift from the city itself into the unincorporated areas. It would be much more efficient to strengthen/grow the city from the inside out. There has been a lot of positive news lately with regard to revitalization downtown and the Nicholson corridor. I'd hate for all that momentum to be lost.

She's pretty much the leading voice for your side.

Look at the budget in regard to the money machine. And Marcelle has made herself a spokesperson of the anti-St. George movement. She keeps talking and unless someone shuts her up, her dumb comments will hang on the necks of the anti-St. George movement like sausages in a smokehouse. The best things to happen to the St. George movement are Marcelle, Delgado, and Holden's State of the Parish Speech.

I don't have a dog in the fight as I live outside EBR, but comments like this make people who are trying to follow the conversation and hear all sides just shake our heads and now I doubt anything you've said.

It doesn't even take a smart person to realize the issue that people have with bussing kids around to keep with the deseg order. You think Woodlawn now and and a future SG Woodlawn with kids that just live in a near vicinity redrawn district would be the same?
And I'm supposed to believe your financial evaluation of the situation?

BTW, that's been happening for 30 years. Why are you concerned now? That's the problem. Your leadership has sat on its arse for 30 years and now others want a shot at running things themselves.

I don't think st George wants to be a "city" with a downtown, etc. I think they want to be a self governing rural area. So I doubt they'll be competing with BR on that level. They'll still spend their money downtown, etc. It should still continue to develop.
Idk I'm trying to read up all I can and be informed on both sides. It's confusing bc no one knows what could happen.

Wrong again. Please at least attempt to know what you're talking about before you make a clearly incorrect statement that is so easily fact checked. The CATS map below shows their routes which run well into the SG area, including the Gardere area, Siegen Lane, Bluebonnet and all the way to Flannery Road north of Fla. Blvd.

I have to say, I'm starting to understand why the SG leaders say anything without concern for truthfulness. It seems to be a behavioral pattern with many SG residents.

The deseg might be over. But EBR school system is still in the business of bussing kids all over the parish.
