The GA-400/I-285 interchange in Atlanta

Sucks donkey balls.
They took something that was originally bad and somehow made it 10x worse.
It's been under construction since like 2016 and the number of orange cones has multiplied since then.
Exit ramps change locations and/or close on a whim. Entry ramps get clogged like Lizzo's arteries. Stop and go traffic consequently is from 6-10am and again from 3-7pm. My office is situated right off of it and I have to put up with this shite every day.
Apparently the bid for the project was given to the company with the "best financial package" AKA the one with the most kickbacks and best laundering practices.
You BR baws hoping for a loop better be careful what you wish for.

I don't think it's worse dude
285EB to 400N was a legit "might be getting my number called today" interchange

They are putting in HOT lanes. It sucks right now but will be worth it in the end.

I don’t think anything the Georgia DOT has done lately has been worth a crap. One of the few successes was the diverging diamond on hwy 20. But downtown G town is awful. Their engineers have odd designs.

There was going to ba an outer northern loop linking 85 to 75. There was so much crap going on with the Gwinnett mafia knowing where the road was going, buying up the land especially at interchanges that Governor Perdue shut it down. We are now paying the price one hundred times over. Everywhere in north suburbs the traffic is horrible and getting worse.
Atlanta sucks

You're on crack. 400/285 has been shite for at least over fifteen years. It has sucked, forever. A clean shot from Lenox to Alpharetta is not great, but it's not bad. Anything that touches 285 is shite.
HOT lanes will fix "things" just like MARTA did.

They're already linked at the Grady Curve, bro!

The 25 foot left merge into 400N from 285 was completely retarded.
I don’t drive 85 much but the HOV lanes on 75 legitimate reduced general traffic on 75 so I hope the same is true for 400. They’re also going to do the entire 285 loop.
Also, the OP posted this at 3:11, likely from his car sitting in traffic.

Exit 27 off of 285 If memory serves. Lived in Alpharetta for three years. It was the bane of my existence during that time.

Sidebar. I don’t know why but people that cross the double lines to get into the peach pass lanes absolutely make my blood boil. I see it all the time especially up in Gwinnett where 985/85 split (headed north).

Yeah that is stupid. You aren't supposed to cross those double lines.
And I bet most people who do that don't have a Peach Pass.

In fairness, it isn't fully finished yet (the same problem occurred during the construction of Spaghetti Junction and "Freeing the Freeways" back in the 80s.
Ferrovial (one of the JV partners on this project) is absolute garbage.

Speaking as someone who worked on the early stages of these projects, the express toll lane projects GDOT is planning are a massive grift that won't actually fix the congestion problem (and will cost well into the $10+ billion mark). That money would be better used expanding MARTA.

For a short time they did, but it also helped that Covid-WFH played a big role. In any case, induced demand is resulting in 75 filling back up (and 400/I-285 will have the same problem).

Only the northern half, and that'll be ridiculously expensive.

I agree.

Georgia should have started the outer perimeter back in the 90s, but they didn't. Atlanta will suffer for that failure for a long, long time.
Some didn't want to do it because it would "encourage migration to that area." We were looking in those areas back then, and people were already there, GA 20 was already there and it was basically going where the outer perimeter would have gone. Now there are even more people up there and GA 20 is no substitute for an actual interstate.
They will finish the new 400 interchange one day and it will help, it too was sorely needed.
But there is no easy fix for Atlanta traffic. You have considerably more people in metro Atlanta than in the entire state of Louisiana.

I wish I could see how many fines are actually issued and how many are paid. I have a feeling they aren’t sending out the fines. If so they should make the fines $250 and I’m sure this would stop.

The Outer Perimeter project would've been another sprawl-generating machine (basically like I-285 but 25 years later), especially since developers and politicians were buying up land near proposed interchanges in order to get rich. Even GDOT at the time viewed the project as an economic development generator rather than a traffic reliever.

It absolutely would've made it worse.
