We all know what to expect at certain places but when the service industry has become so devoid of folks willing to serve that they hire anyone with a pulse and a ride to work then going out loses it's appeal

No need to apologize for venting. If some time goes by and you change your mind the offer still stands. I have terminated one employee over your experience. There are no excuses, just my reality. Every day I question why I'm in a business that has bankrupted me financially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I don't do it for myself, but for the livelihood of my 85 staff and for the charity work that the business has afforded me to participate in.

I agree that we need additional training, and it is a continuous effort. One thing I know for sure is that you can't train the stupid out of a person. Again, I'm appalled at your experience and have taken some very decisive measures to avoid this in the future.
None of this happened to you and you should seek help.

I can't even imagine getting so triggered.

You are exactly the idiot type who fails to understand the frustration of those who provide employment for you. Gfy

Quit pussyfooting around and share with the class what the person did. Because your OP says nothing of that sort. You just said you hate tattoos.

Fine, The Reel in New Braunfels today.
After stopping by twin peaks for 6 inedible wings I stopped at Sea Island for some salt with shrimp on it. I decided this place had enough pride to come thru but....nope

Bud, the line cooks are snorting coke and taking stimulants before and during shifts. They've been doing that for at least 40 years. Yes, even the nice ones have a drug problem in the back of the house.

I don’t need the person with pink hair to be anything else. It’s not relevant to my current direction

We were talking about staffing issues in F&B when I got in this industry in the mid 90’s. It takes a different type of person to make it a career & it’s always been a struggle. Today is no different. With higher cost of goods & the wage driving up, the cost of what’s charged is climbing a steep hill. We all bitch that the living wage is too low, then bitch when it hits us because goods rise with wage. Can’t have one without the other

Sums it up nicely. I start at $14/hr just to cook some wings and grill some burgers. It isn't attracting better talent yet I always hear someone is working for much less at another low skill job. I get that people do not want my crappy restaurant job, but for some that is a big jump in pay.

I burned on the line in white tablecloth restaurants during college and law school and while I truly enjoyed the work I was glad to have another path in life because I knew I could not keep up with the drugging and drinking that goes on among the average back of house employees more than a couple more years.

The reason that demographic is attracted to restaurants is because they all really desire to be artists, but none of them can paint or play guitar; so they chop onions instead.

Worst restaurant service I ever had was at Threadgills in Austin years ago.
Stuck out to me. Wrong orders. Cold food. Server wouldn't make it right. No drink refills and manager didn't remove items we didn't order. Horrible experience.

Every other dining experience in Austin was great.

They all seem to envision themselves as hip and trendy. Random doodle tats, piercings/guages and odd hairstyles rule with this crowd of “cooks” and “servers” who view those of us coming in to patronize the business as annoying for asking them to do the job.
