So you get paid more than our US senators and don’t do half their work or hours? Sounds like you should head to the private sector. You’re a salaried employee which already compensates you for OT. Then you get 25% on top of that? Considering salary is typically based on a 50hr work week, you’re being paid to work ~63hrs a week. Are you working 63hrs a week? I SERIOUSLY doubt you’re coming anywhere close to that figure.

FYI…you won’t make $200k doing LE work in the private sector.

You can always try to take over the federal government. A group of grandmas taking selfies almost did it in 2021.

The beauty of America is that you can go find a new job anytime you want.

And I agree they are screwing you. You don't have to accept it. But you do because whatever benefits you are leaving out of this discussion are worth more than you are losing .

If you are an adult and not incarcerated, nobody is forcing you to do shite. You can always choose to get up and leave.

This has been asked and answered in the courts. The rulings have been that the salary cap does not require that you work for free, but rather recognizes that you have achieved the maximum pay for a year of service as is covered under the law. In short - you have been paid for the year's service.
That would be an annoyance.
But if you are a 14 step 6 and in DC, you are likely setting up your endgame as a specialist or supervisor. You will surely not be complaining once you join the check of the month club, so things will greatly favor you before long.
Save money for the short dry spells and stay focused on that endgame rather than the bumps along the way.
I can only imagine how you must have dealt with the periodic furlough follies. Those would have bothered me more - especially if I had to lead personnel during those unreasonable times.

As a GS-14 LEO fed in DC there is no way you are getting “called out” or even working your 50 hours…hence you posting during a duty day.

Stop with your whining you twat. I spent 30 years in LE/military (22 years Fed) and 100% know MAJORITY of feds were LAZY, milked LEAP, and failed to bring significant cases…old saying of “big cases, big problems, little cases, little problems”

Made me sick. I was hyper successful and retired first week I was eligible at 50 as I did not want to work one more day for an immoral govt…you come on here expecting sympathy from everyday citizens working twice as hard with not the same benefits?!?! GTFO you leach.

Signed,
Retired Fed LEO

The definition of “works” is subjective with regard to Federal Employees.

As in a small percentage of what is required in the private sector, with a few notable exceptions.

I am a GS-14, Step 6. Because I'm currently stationed in the DC area, my salary is $166,236, plus an additional 25% for LEAP (Law Enforcement Availability Pay), which is built in overtime for callouts, unforeseen continuation of the duty day, etc. OPM This brings my annual salary to $207,795 before holidays or night pay. Fairly decent. However, due to some archaic rule within the government, we are capped at $195,200. Regardless of any circumstances, including the actual salary to my listed paygrade, I cannot earn my true income.

Work harder and get promoted. Booyah!

Worked for me.

Will you receive a pension and benefits for this job? Are you eligible for the THRIFT savings plan?

You are responding to the poster child of the type of govt workers that absolutely defy the majority of the system.

Working in DC plus LEO will always be better than a regular cop job

Anybody in DC is doing well. They get overgraded and overpaid
