Sometimes I wonder how people can disappear and get off the radar these days. I worked with a guy who simply disappeared without a trace. I actually talked to him the day before he went missing. Crazy how there hasn't been one trace of him anywhere with all the data and surveillance out there.

Everyone’s personal info is on the cyber black market.

It use to be that you never gave out your SSN. Now any hacker worth his salt can find it on the dark web I’m sure.

I'm pretty sure the only real way to secure your identity/credit nowadays is wreck it yourself.

Thanks OPM!

Breaches are one thing, but the information that people willingly give up is astounding. From 2004, in London:
quote:

More than 70% of people would reveal their computer password in exchange for a bar of chocolate, a survey has found.
It also showed that 34% of respondents volunteered their password when asked without even needing to be bribed.

A second survey found that 79% of people unwittingly gave away information that could be used to steal their identity when questioned.

Its much easier than that. Hundreds of data resellers sell your SSN information every day that comes from credit agencies.

Services like TransUnion's TLOxp etc. let pretty much anyone with business documentation search up anyone.

Your SSN is laughably easy to find.

do you ever use a credit card

Not in my own name

Never bought anything online
Cell has voice and text only, no data
Trade locally in cash

Pre paid Master Card in Canada, paid with cash
Pre paid Visa in USA, paid in cash

Not complete, but fairly

Had the same address since 70's
Pay cash for cell via pre paid cards

Not on social media and don't buy anything on the web, just shop local.

Old fart like me, not like I spend much and no debt. Never owned a new car. Never financed a car and my house was paid off before social media took hold.

DMV was the worst offender prior to the internet. That is how you got on the Publishers Clearing House snail mail and the crappy catalogues.

Old wire phone

Ethernet for the computer, still faster than any modem on transfer. Going through the air slows you down.

You think using Ethernet instead of WiFi keeps you off grid?

There is little to no reason for a company to have your entire social. 95% can function with only your last four, but even then it’s not really hard to figure out the rest once you figure out their birth location. SS# were never meant to be what they are today.

We invited this shite in. Back in the day mofos would say dont talk on the phone be quiet ya gonna get me busted when Talking to your weed dealer.
Then they tell us this BS about kids eating lead based paint on toys and that we cant use the it anymore. Thats bc.they were preparing us for Alexia and this ir that. What does lead block? Xrays, and Radio waves that's what. Before its all over we will have a government that watches us and rates us just like the Chinese do. Social Ranking system, Gaite AI security system that can determine who you are by just watching how you walk even if your face is covered.
Its slowly happening year after year the noose gets tighter and tighter. Its so gradual that ya cant see it and it becomes the norm.
Blessed to grow up in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Hell to the fricking yeah!!
