The bad thing is there’s no where to go, areas like Central, Zachary & Denham are slowly headed in the same direction
You can get away from it but eventually it’s going to catch up to you

Zachary is definitely headed in the wrong direction. Central and Denham, I think it's a little too early to tell but I do feel like once VSG is up and running that'll be the demise of Central and Denham. VSG is gonna be so nice ... Central and Denham will always be a middle of the road suburb with no luxuries

Zachary has fallen. My sister is bailing while home still has value.

I can't wait to move out of BR and Louisiana in general. I'll encourage my kids to go to college in state just to get TOPS. I've paid enough taxes in this shitty state to at least get a return there. After that, run and don't look back.

Part of me thinks the city has never fully recovered.

The absolute worst thing that could have happened to BR (other than a meteor strike) was an influx of 10s of thousands of poor, uneducated assholes who believed society owed them the world. And that is exactly what happened 20 years ago. Not every evacuee was irredeemable, but man, there weren't many of them.

Exactly what happened to my sis in Zachary. Across the street house, 3k sq feet, nice pool. At least 6 people live there and the traffic in and out is crazy.

They pooled every ones income, 2k a month times 6 is 12k in income. The bank doesnt give a shite how many people live there.

That’s not true. BR had great neighborhoods, the schools were ok, and was a good place to live. I’ve been gone for years now, but I do know it went downhill at Katrina.

Moved out to St George, 1 mile from ascension parish. Wish I would have done it sooner. Lived in BR proper my whole life, never could understand why these people loved all the way out here. But now that it’s all grown up, it’s somewhat reminiscent of mid to late 80s BR. Somewhat busy, but still somewhat country feeling.

We will handle mining the banks of Manchac to keep the AP out. Hold the line out there on Tiger Bend.

I don't remember Baton Rouge being nice in the 90's

I was a teenager in the fifties. My cousin lived on Convention Street. He owned a motor scooter and we would travel all over Baton Rouge with no thought of safety. I left La in 62.
My older sisters and I would visit BR each year and attend LSU Spring game and a baseball game. One evening I suggested we drive down Convention Street to see mu Aunt's old neighborhood. My sister, who lived in Baker at the time, told me the only way she would drive down Convention St was in an Army Tank.
It continues its downward path. So sad!

Katrina anniversary today. Oh the irony.

It’s time for people to stop blaming Baton Rouge’s problems on hurricane Katrina. BR has less population now then immediately pre-Katrina.

The "line" has moved from Greenwell Springs in the 90's to Florida Blvd in the early 2000's. That line has now moved to I-12 and may be more south than that in recent years.

Interesting. When I went to college there latter half of the ‘00’s, I understood that line to be Florida Blvd. You could also still go to Cortana Mall and be safe, and just venture up there for random errands.

When I go back for games, it’s easy to see how the ghetto has crept more south. Hotels that used to be in decent areas are now off limits for me. I think twice before I find a gas station. Better to be safe than sorry.

Truly sad, I remember Sherwood Forest being the elite area to be in the 70s. I attended Tara high curious as to what it's like now?
