The entire profitability of the company was tied to the name…so they changed it to appease people who didn’t then, nor would ever buy their product in the future. Brilliant!!!
This.

Going the way of Hubig's.
In what way?
Hubig’s 1st death was by a fire. Fun fact where the brewery is located there was a huge distribution center for MacFrugals that caught fire in 1996. The building sat mostly vacant after the fire until another alcohol distributor moved into a subdivided part. And then Dixie moved in creating the beer garden on another part.
Hubig’s second death is going to be on quality and lack of interest in over priced pies. I bought some this week. I was disappointed in the size for the price and the dough was too thick.
Rouses sells J&J pies for 79 cents. The are comparable to Hubig’s and are larger and cheaper. They also have a larger variety.

Should have kept the name Dixie. Velvet Voodoo is a good beer.

Sorry it is JJ’s pies.
The J&J pies are reserved for the stores with rat infestations.

If I recall Rita renamed it after Tom's death. Tom was a hig fan of the Dixie brand. Everything Tom touched has been turned to shite by Rita....frick her

quote:The earlier beer had varied greatly over time, but the reboot product was a pretty good rice finished beer which was an honest attempt to faithfully return Dixie to its tradition.
The beer sucked.
quote:That name and tradition were a large part of the interest, but it was a good beer - especially with seafood. Benson's version of Dixie was better than much of the old versions as it was far more consistently well made. Some people just might not like that style of beer, but it was a well made beer.
The only thing going for it was the name and it’s history.
quote:I suspect that he had nothing to do with the name change as he died in 2018 and the brewery announced this decision in late 2020. It was his stated goal to bring the best of Dixie back to New Orleanians who were missing that iconic product and he succeeded completely in doing exactly that by going all out with building a high quality brewery.
When Tom Benson bought it, and changed the name, it became worthless on every level

Tom Benson ruined everything he touched
