Wow. I can’t believe the applications from JDs and MBAs aren’t rolling in.

You’re hiring a manual labor position and expecting more from your applicants than is required of the job.

Maybe companies should take care of their employees and people wouldn’t bounce around all the time

A dairy plant in rural WI is starting people out at $28/hour.

If you're in a metro good luck getting anyone at $25.

And don't bother with drug tests.

There isn't much loyalty from companies anymore. Why should I stick around 3 years, when I don't get a raise in those 3 years and my insurance goes up in price annually?

I understand it but it's strange to me. It usually takes a good new hire a year to be fairly autonomous on my team. If you are only going to stay for 2, I'd never bother hiring you.

If you need insurgents neutralized, assets delivered on target or an LSU man cave decorated, he’s your man.

I’m old enough to remember when job hopping was viewed as a serious negative to a candidate and young enough to think: “Damn, this dude now makes 70% more than me because he took 10-14% raises every 2 years”.

putting out a job description/advertisement does take a fair amount of analytical work by the company. duties , soft skills, compensation that supports employment duration, analytical, work location, benefits, etc. the company also needs to evaluate the employee market to assure company objectives can be satisfied by the market. Understanding the fit for full employees, part time employees, full time contractors, on call contractors maybe even retirees is part of the equation.
Home service is not enough description info to justify a stamped envelope. A really good large scale Petrochemical recruitment program will have about 5 useful resumes out of a hundred submittals. If you are looking for call center personnel your approach will be different.

It’s not because they are trying to get more experience. I’ve hired thousands of people. It’s because they wear out their welcome and they stop trying. As soon as they get bored or feel unsuccessful they leave. Until they don’t get their way they leave. It’s more in their own head than anything. These new kids are so fricking fragile these days.

not uncommon for me to get resumes from people that are 33 and have had 8 different jobs post college.

Same

Just had a resume sent to me. I called and told him we were not moved jg forward with his application because he had worked with 5 companies in the last 7 years and he had only been at his current stop for 8-9 months.

I was very upfront and telling the candidate that we were not interested in getting someone trained up within our systems to just leave in a year or two.

Companies are consistently offering 15-30% more than current salaries, and then hiring replacements at 110%-120% previous salaries. It’s fricking stupid.

In our industry 5-10 year people are getting offers to leave and make literal life changing money, like hold your current lifestyle and pay for your kids college money without changing a thing.

And what’s the counter? 7% raise.

Let me save you some time with the resumes.

Throw out all resumes not in Spanish.

Start there.

I'll give you an example that just occurred to me. Have something come last minute on a Friday afternoon. New company we have the opportunity to work for. I handle everything I can on my end, have to wait on the customer to take care of some other things. 5 AM Saturday morning, customer is calling us telling us we need to be in compliance with everything they require that day, or we can't work for em. Spend 7 hours, busting arse for free because, salary life. Sunday, customer realizes they screwed up, 6 more hours of work. Get everything taken care off, all good on home front.

The next Friday comes around. I decide to get out of the house AN HOUR EARLY. Everything is taken care of, the office for the majority of the afternoon has been empty. Boss calls me while I'm still in the parking lot to tell me that even though I spent 13 hours working for free, its frowned upon to leave early and I need to make better decisions. If you don't think I spent the entire weekend applying to other jobs, you are out of your mind.

And this is the fricking problem. How many able bodied men could do this but are sucking off the welfare tit getting absolutely stoned and being completely worthless to society?

Cut welfare, lock down immigration to only those with truly unique skills, and I don’t mean the skill
If living in a 3 bedroom apartment with 17 people, and make young Americans (under 50) work again.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
