The CSA was not a good cause. Maybe the feds stop fighting so many foreign wars and acknowledge the mistakes of slavery and address the underlying issues?

It's better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

I wasn't advocating for or against reparations. My post was purely in response to the idea that the argument for reparations begins and ends with slavery.

You grandparents were certainly, and your parents were probably, alive when the last known public lynching occurred in the United States.

Our country's sins related to slavery, racism, and caste didn't disappear in 1865.

Lol and I had nothing to do with it and don't give a frick, more blacks murder each other every year than every lynching ever, its a fricking genocide.

I’m miss remembering.

In the 19th century, most victims were white. In the 20th century, the victims were predominantly black.

It was a national phenomenon though. Lynching was common in the west for example, where the rule of law was quite weak.

Good, because it's an absolutely retarded idea. It will never end when started.

Reparations will not move the needle of the grievance industry.

This.

The last 10 years are positive proof that giving them anything only feeds their agitation.

You can add electing Biden to that list of people who fit in with all that

Cool I was not speaking of reparations either. I was speaking of you making it seem as if my grandparents being alive during a lynching somehow made them responsible.

Nope, the lynchings are simply a visceral example of the continuation of state sanctioned/condoned racism and caste in the United States. The arguments for reparations stretch from chattel slavery to Jim Crow to red lining, and everything in between.

Again, I'm not advocating for or against, but nonsense like the OP isn't constructive.

"Sins" committed by every society in the world at some point, including where these slaves came from.

Get over it. You can gush with white guilt until you die and nothing really will change. Collectivism fricking sucks, you are simply responsible for yourself.

Our countries "sins" don't get better by overcompensating and allowing the pendulum to swing the opposite way.

The only reparations in this country should be related to natives and land.

I did no such thing, but you certainly seem sensitive on the point.

Again, my point in bringing up public lynchings was to illustrate that the "hur dur slavery ended in 1865" argument is moronic. Visceral, horrific racism was government supported and sanctioned in this country, through action or intentional inaction, far longer than that.

I'm not gushing with anything at all, but you've always been fond of strawmen <3
