They are fricked long term regardless simply due to demographics.
Mao and the “one child policy” skewed their population heavily male, which causes new problems in not being able to find a mate.
You can have a ton of women and a small number of men and keep up birth rates. Not the opposite unless you use a ton of fertility drugs and basically turn them into baby farms.

War gets rid of your excess population.

So is Japan. their employment pracitices are to hire recent grads and its lifelong employment.
During the recent economic struggle companies froze hiring and millions of young folks got fricked. There's a mid career hiring practice but that's many years away for them.

Japan’s had issues for years before that with both birth rates and people going hikokimori (shut ins).
