The hookers in those hotels are probably like $5 hookers but come with a $500 STD treatment bill.
The better-looking hookers all hang around the casino area during the weekends trying to get some Houston baws drunk so they can max out their credit cards.
Me and my wife have watched a Vietnamese hooker work a few ole baws over at the baccarat table over the years. She's pretty hot TBH and always dresses like a skank.

Mixed emotions watching it go down this morning. Excited for the future, though.

I hope to be as excited one day about something as Lake Charles is about a simple construction demo.

And while everyone in the general area sucks in the Asbestos...

Went amazingly well considering it was done in Louisiana, way better than the last attempt in Nawlins a few years back. Just read a Texas company did it, makes sense now.

how old was that building? hasn’t asbestos been out of vogue for about 50 years, give or take?

Construction started in 1981 so it could have had some asbestos in it but if it would have been enough to be a concern they would have removed it before letting it blow all over the lake.

I was working construction during the summer as a kid, one summer we removed the asbestos insulation in the ceiling of the entire VA hospital in Shreveport, I believe because of new EPA regs, that was in the 70s

I doubt it will be a Casino. They built a land-based casino just over the bridge and renamed it to the Horseshoe brand. Used to Isle of Capris boats until the boat got stuck under the bridge during Laura and they applied to go land-based.
LC tried to convince the Horseshoe to take over the Cap One building after Laura instead of renovating /building in Westlake but they didn’t want to be in the city limits.

My brother's FIL was the mayor of Westlake who just passed. There is a little more to it than that and he told us about it but I can't recall all of the details. You are correct that Lake Charles wants the taxes from the Horseshoe. I think they were getting some of the taxes off of the boats but now the land is squarely in Westlake city limits.

I built the casino.
It was a little more detailed than that but the main factors were they didn’t want to be in LC, thought the Cap One building had too many questions, like plumbing for rooms, and lastly are expecting LC eventually to ban smoking in casinos.

Lake Charles is a fricking dump.

Even in cities with full occupancy, they often aren’t paying utilities or insurance premiums.
They were $500,000 behind on electricity in Shreveport. They had a cutoff notice posted in the building 2 weeks ago. It got paid, but they apparently still owe something like $25,000 in water bills, too. The two buildings are over 80% occupied- they shouldn’t be struggling.

I’m not looking forward to spending another 3-4 years there

Showing my age. I remember when it was Calcasieu Marine National Bank.
Me, too. That building was there for most of my life. It was a shame what happened to that building. I hope the city does something good with the land, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope. I certainly don't have any faith in them after they changed the name of Contraband Days.

Saw this picture someone put together and thought I’d share.

Meh… that’s not how it happened. Dumb to make lame arse fan fiction when there’s pictures and videos of it actually coming down.

quote:the oil market collapsed before it was completed. I don't think it was even close to full occupancy. Calcasieu Marine was possibly the most solvent bank in the nation back then. It had cash out the wazoo.
the building had occupancy issues prior to Laura, they couldn't even fill it
Nationwide a big problem for major banks is a shitton of empty office space and bad debt. It is not uncommon for commercial real estate to have tenants a year behind on their lease payments, even before the recent trends.
