The Flying Forehead is never going to be attractive.

I'm at work, so I can't post a photo, but one of the SCAs brought a Space Shuttle to Huntsville when I was a kid. Columbia, maybe? That was back in the day when they let us congregate out on the ramp to watch it land and taxi in. Amazing.

Lufthansa, Korean, and Air China all operate the new version, the 747-8i.

UPS is buying -8’s, as well. I think they are getting 28 total

Watching a 747 take off is probably one of the greatest joys a person can have in understand human ingenuity.

Accurate statement, since one can no longer do this: I had the fortune of watching a dozen space shuttle launches from three miles away, at the countdown clock (forward of the Vehicle Assembly Building).

I brought a few friends along. The best description was from a buddy who works for SWA maintenance at Love Field (desk-job) and he eloquently said:
"JP, in aviation, we have to balance passengers, fuel, cargo, reliability, lift, drag, and so on, in an elegant dance that is sometimes beautiful. The launch I just witnessed, its like you space guys raise the bar and push a button that says frick GRAVITY!"

I loved flying the airplane! It was a sad day when we parked them. Once you figured out how high you had to flare for landing It was easy to fly and handled wonderfully. It was really fun when we flew them as a 2 man crew on the shorter flights. One may be surprised how small the cockpit was relative to the jet itself.

Oh that reminds me. For the TDers in the Bay Area, at the museum at the San Carlos airport is a 747 cockpit you can check out. It's a 100 series so the cockpit is classic and really primitive looking.

The 747 has been an amazing vehicle for peace, commerce, knowledge sharing, exploring, families and societies connecting. It truly shrunk the world by revolutionizing the airline industry and opened the world up to billions of people in the middle class and poor as well.

It's the greatest aircraft ever built and most beautiful plane to ever fly. It's truly the GOAT airplane.

These are in my opinion, the most beautiful paint jobs on 747s ever.

You could say that I really like blue on them.

KLM's new scheme is really good one. I like the dip at the front. Would look amazing on the 747-8

My dad used to fly the stand-by air force one planes at Offut Afb. We lived in officer housing pretty close to the flight line and it always fascinated me watching those big mfers somehow stay airborne while doing touch and goes.

Also a csb, during 9/11 when Bush was at offut afb (stratcom,) they made 4 of the alternate's take off in opposing directions as to not giveaway which one actually had the president on board.

I got to do a limited tour of one of them when I was 9, still to this day one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
