False

•The five states with the highest average combined state and local sales tax rates are Louisiana (10.02 percent), Tennessee (9.46 percent), Arkansas (9.41 percent), Washington (9.18 percent), and Alabama (9.10 percent).

we'll agree to disagree.

The answer doesn't have to be gasoline taxes, but...

1) Texas has more toll roads than we do
2) Texas pays higher car registration fees than we do
3) Texas pays higher auto inspection fees than we do
4) The gas tax in Texas is 1/100th penny cheaper than in LA

I'm fine with this. Lower my sales taxes and you can raise the registration fees. Ditto for inspection fees. Toll roads? "Effin A Cotton". They seem to work well enough one state over.

unfortunately, none of this is gonna happen cause our system is so corrupt, it would never get past an initial stage.

We also got a federal judge who wielded a heavy hand and forced an obstructionist school board to blow up our school system and scatter folks all over the metro area.

This is the root cause of all of Baton Rouge's problems.

I-210, including the Israel LaFleur Bridge, was constructed between its western terminus and Prien Lake Road circa 1963 to 1965.[4] Initially, the western terminus at I-10 consisted solely of eastbound entrance and westbound exit ramps.

The eastern remainder of I-210 was built circa 1975 to 1976,[5] and westbound entrance/eastbound exit ramps were added to the western terminus in 1986.[6] Much of the area surrounding I-210 in southern Lake Charles was developed prior to construction of the freeway. As a result, many homes and businesses in its path were demolished.

Stuff like this.

We have a stupid high sales tax because we have stupid low property tax (both in rate and due to exemptions) and our income tax is middle of the road, and our use fees are low.

Left out of the rankings you have mentioned is Business Tax rates. We are regularly in highest 5 - 10 states in Business taxes. Plus, many businesses pay a lot of our Sales Taxes which are the highest in the country.

It is a myth that Louisiana doesn't pay taxes.

and business taxes?

Hey man, you get rid of the state income tax and I'll give up my home stead exemption. I have enough land and livestock to qualify for an exemption under Texas guidelines anyway.
But you're full of shite (respectfully) if you think La isn't taxed to hell.

and we still don't have shite to show for it. that's the biggest difference btwn us and Texas. I'd be more willing to pay more in taxes if I had an ounce of faith that the money would be allocated and used correctly and honestly.

I see this guy on tv all the time and have a pretty overall positive impression of him. He’s accessible and he explains things well. I don’t wish him ill or anything and I’m not putting this on him or any one person or party in general.

I get pissed off everytime I come in town for a football game or other visit. Over here in Houston they are constantly improving infrastructure. You may have to suffer while it is being built but things get better eventually.

No kids yet, but xivette knows everything there is to know about the schools around here (I myself substitute taught a bit in my early 20’s before I moved away), and you can make the system work for you if you want to, and doing so will be far less time consuming than driving to work from a different parish every morning.

This is America. You can get what you want if you’re willing to do what it takes.

Hahaha. The best part of all this nonsense is when life with kids slaps you across you face.

If you want to see real bacon go to West Virginia and see what Byrd did and then tell me La. did well.

And never forget the deal our delegation cut to help the oil companies when we agreed to a shorter off shore line of demarcation for federal and state waters.

Nothing will be done until something truly catastrophic happens (either deadly like a bridge collapse) or such a significant event to a main roadway through town has to be closed
