Using average here is dumb. Because a number like 50 billion really skews things
$50b/400 million people = $125.00 per American citizen difference

I agree that median is much more appropriate a stat than average.

I wish this was broken down by age.

I’m 33 and right on target for the median with no debt other than my mortgage, which makes me feel like a colossal fricking loser.

I assume the vast majority of Americans' wealth is in retirement accounts and home equity.

I’m honestly shocked how high the median is. And that’s why we have sky high immigration. Anyone who has travelled outside of Europe knows how poor the average person is globally.

A doc just out of residency will be making $200K-400K and be worth -$200K.

Are they “rich” or “poor?”
Also, means without medians when looking a distributions across hundreds of millions of numbers, some of which are worth hundreds of millions, are only so valuable.

Middle class europeans do not have the income that middle class Americans have. They may have as much or more wealth due to real estate prices being so high but incomes are pretty low for most professionals in Europe...

If lots of people have over a million dollars then it's not a good thing for the dollar.

Zimbabwe and Venezuela are full of "billionaires".

Most professionals earn a million dollars every 5 - 10 years today. I suspect most middle class Americans with any wealth at all are pushing a million in real estate and retirement savings. And most are probably 90 days from banruptcy or at least some serious financial trouble.

Yep. If you have one billionaire and 99 people with $1 net worth what’s that average?

Does it make the 99 better off?

Now how can that be possible when the average American is hundreds of thousands in debt. Did they consider that in their equation?
