This has to be the most typical corrupt and stupid Louisiana thing ever, building a 500 million dollar bridge that maybe 2,000 people use per day. It may be beautiful, but it is completely useless and just a complete representation of how fricking backwards our infrastucture and government are as a whole

Man good job. We haven’t had this thread in at least three months.

Maybe someone can start a Doc Swolle thread too

Oh well, at least it’s not a vaccine thread

State finally does something pro-active and you bitch.

50 years from now you'd be bitching why didn't the politicians build another bridge north of BR 50 years ago.

Some people are insufferable.

Bro, if I'm in St Fran and want to eat at Morel's, that bridge comes in handy.

About 6,500. Well under projections.

Pointe Coupee and West Feliciana wanted the bridge, lobbied for it, and didn't quarrel over the placement. It took them about 50 years to get it.

Baton Rouge would have a 3rd bridge under construction by now if people would STFU and be more flexible on the placement.

Building a bridge to nowhere that a few hundred people use is not “pro-active”. It’s a pet project.

The bridge is at least 15 miles too far north to be of any use to alleviate BR traffic problems

I'm surprised the SJW's have not gone after renaming that bridge.

I read a few excerpts in news articles where Audubon makes some pretty indefensible racial claims. I personally am against all the renaming stuff but it would be an interesting debate.

His views were so problematic that even the audubon institute published an article on them

That's not the intent of the bridge.

The state made an effort to replace all the river ferries north of New Orleans after the Luling disaster.

Plaquemine still has one that actually uses the old boat from New Roads. The only reason that's the case is because the each capitol area politician would rather not have a bridge at all than have one a few miles from where they think it should be. That and Baton Rouge typically gets screwed when it comes to appropriations like this.

Wiki also says it is too far South to have the desired/anticipated economic impact of increaing trade between New Roads and St. Francisville

This wasn’t proactive and won’t alleviate any traffic around I-10 and the MS. They would have been better served to spend money building a bridge that will actually get used. But no they made it so the dozens of people needing to get from news Rhodes to Zachary or St. Francisville can now cross with ease.

Agreed. It would be cool if 18 wheelers were not allowed to cross the spillway or Mississippi River bridge.

Make that northern portion a “truck route”
