We did it because we could. Some say it was as bad as Nagsaki or Hiroshima. Some major wholesale devastation.

Two years prior the British did it in Hamburg. Those city firestorms in WW2 were terrifying. Even if you were able to get out on the street the winds from the flames would suck you into a burning building. Virtually no chance of survival if you are anywhere near the center of the bombing run

quote:

the greatest single-day loss of life in wartime, up to then. More than 30,000 residents of Hamburg, Germany, were killed when the city was bombed by British bombers.

The bombings created huge firestorms. Many died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Weeks-long heatwave in Germany has turned Hamburg into the perfect site for firestorm- pillars of superheated air are feeding flames, with temperatures of 800°C, hot enough to melt steel & turn human flesh to ash.

Under Operation Gomorrah over 100,000 bombs were dropped that night - the explosions created a 460m-high tornado of fire.

Crazy that we have reached a point of where we have multiple full on open Nazi supporters in this thread. You could see it coming the last couple of years on here with the way a lot of simple people are stuck in binary thinking. Communist/socialist are bad so Nazis have to have been good is the epitome of low level thinking.

Meh, it’s the internet and there are dumbasses. Just like some idiots downvoted a post I made earlier about the mafia being evil.
Seriously.

The Germans fire bombed London for eight months straight in 1941 during The Blitz.

With all due respect, the Nazis did not have a problem doing this.

I think using the argument, "The other guy did it first," is a terrible argument. If your son was punched in the face by a rival at school and he responded by hitting him into a coma with a brick, are you okay with the unbalanced outcome?

That's what happens when your city is made out of paper and the enemy's bombs are designed to take advantage of that.

Rotterdam and Warsaw say hi.

More to the point, Coventry. One could say that Dresden got the coventrieren treatment.

That said, I've been to Dresden. It's remarkable how those Germans rebuilt the city. Apparently every stone had the mason's name on it, and a code as to where it went in the building. They basically retrieved the plans, sorted the rocks, and simply put them back in place.

Alternatively, just ask them to condemn the attacks on England via The air. Or , you know, the holocaust.

I condemn the bombing of civilians in England. There were bad guys on both sides of the war. Jesus said to judge a tree by its fruits. The fruits of WW2 are widescale atheism, feminism, ugly brutalist, soulless architecture and self destruction of western culture.

Only a fool would believe that WW2 was a true battle of good vs evil while asking no questions. When I visit Germany and talk to Germans I dont see the seeds of evil people. Youll never convince me that a majority of German citizens or even a majority Nazi party members were in favor of eradication of a race of people.

And yes, the Germans did have reasonable reason to dislike Jews as well as their enemies from WW1. Recognizing this doesnt make you evil, nor does it make you enlightened. Just means you are interested in the truth and fairness.

I dont know if this is a troll comment or not but its actually true. If Germans had won WW2, the history would be recorded as Germans reclaiming land that was once theirs, expelling disruptive people that were promoting degeneracy and communism and fighting off foreign warmongerers that refused peace at every turn.

Then id probably be a dreaded "allied sympathizer"

Talk about framing something to your liking. Also coming out of WWII was globalization, mass industrialization, and a gigantic boom of the global middles class.

The life of the average human being got significantly better after the economic and technological advances that are direct results of WWII.

Ok then, I’ll quit discussing this with you since your mind is made up.

What were they? I believe I know the answers to my own question, but I want yours.

Only one side consistently and continuously participated in the genocide of an entire people and routine human experimentation, and it wasn’t just Germans.

WTF is this bullshite?

First of all, what Germany was doing to cities wasn't just punching them in the face. If you start destroying other countries' cities, you should expect they'll turn around and destroy yours if given the chance.

quote:

coventrieren (weak, third-person singular present coventriert, past tense coventrierte, past participle coventriert, auxiliary haben)

to devastate or raze (a city) in the manner of the November 1940 aerial bombardment of Coventry, England

Usage notes
A Nazi expression used in World War II propaganda, until British and US bombing of German cities made its use inappropriate.

Sounds like the fruits of the tree, and that tree was us bombing them back into civilization. Same with Japan.
