I don't really know Shelton other than meeting him a couple of times through mutual friends. There's been a lot of activity on his properties lately and the mansion is being destroyed. Everything about this house strikes me as odd, from the initial decision to build it to someone buying it only to tear it down. There's even activity in the m\Masonic Home field across Prescott from the odd pond. Anyway, it's this house.

I lived in the apartments next to it for 3 years. Such a weird house.

I went inside once and it was very 90s décor and had so much wasted open space.

I was kinda hoping someone here knew. I mean, with his kind of money, he could build whatever he wants anywhere he wants. I guess he just likes that corner?

I really don't know enough to answer this in the way you would probably like. Local business man who may have owned some Popeyes out of state? Shelton Development Co.

That would make the most sense.

Some back story and history of this place.

It was built by Mr. Slayter in the early 2000s directly across the street from one of the ritziest neighborhoods in town (insert your terrible Alexandria jokes here). It was built there because the neighborhood (Landmark) told him that the house was too big for their neighborhood and wouldn't approve the plans. To my knowledge, at the time it was just Mr. and Mrs. Slayter as their children were grown. Once Mrs. Slayter passed away, the nearly 18,000sqft house, which was already way too large for two people, was for sure too large for one. So he began trying to sell it around 2009 for close to $3million. Last I knew, it was listed around $1.7 million back during Covid. Mr. Shelton purchased it in 2021, along with many nearby properties and has built and extremely nice but obviously much smaller home on the property directly behind this one.

This house was sitting vacant, falling in disrepair, and costing a fortune in property taxes. So the rumor is that he is tearing it down to make room for further expansion and development of his living space and a place for his car collection.

I would not doubt it, but more than anything it had outdated, no way to fix it issues. I bet one could have got it for a deal, but damn, it was unlivable.

It needed gutted. Beaurtiful lot thought, but even that would need 400k or so to add pool and all the landscaping it needed for privacy.

Wow

They are tearing that house down? I did some work on it when they were building it.

When I moved out of the apartments 2 years ago, they had begun construction on a fancy driveway with all the landscaping going away from Horseshoe to the smaller house in the back. So I knew it was only a matter of time.
