Yep.. even on a 400,000 home 20% is 80,000

Unless you have an inheritance or family gift, very few can come off that type of cash

I am not defending the housing market/interest rates/cost of living, but 20% isn't the minimum right? My brother just bought with a 5% required down and I'm buying with 10%. I don't think I've ever put more than 10% on any of my houses except for my business construction loan.

You don’t have to, but then you are throwing money away in PMI.

Using your logic, we should have just ignored child labor or the Great Depression. Truly stupid, stupid shite

Raoul, did people in 2007 have more savings set aside to put down 20%?

From what I can tell, young people these days aren't saving enough, and that the price of the home won't matter much if they can't put down a decent down payment.

Most of you are commenting on prices whereas in many instances the problem is actually "priorities". Todays younger folk are not willing to wait and hope and save for the day when they can own their own home, instead they place their priorities on that next vacation, concert, cruise, new boat, side-by-side, fishing or hunting trip, etc. etc.
When there is only so much water in the well they will use it for washing their new car and then go spend gas money driving that car to the mall to buy a case of bottled water. Priorities!!

You’re comparing the fact you can’t afford the big house in the best neighborhood in the big city to the fact 10 year olds use to work in cotton mills and coal mines.

Poor you.

Real home prices are two to three times higher than they used to be but yeah man, it’s just priorities

I’m just extrapolating your logic, “life’s not fair, get over it, and get to work”

The small house in the bad neighborhood is also more expensive than ever before

Nope

Goods are more expensive relative to income than ever before. That has nothing to do with priorities or spending habits

Simple concept. Extremely simple. 4th grade level stuff

Sounds harsh, but it’s true. Sorry mommy never explained the real world to you and now you can’t cope.

It’s objectively not true, we live in a fricking society

Would the cost of goods being at an all time high compared to income be an important stat?

Well rent isn't $4-500 anymore, it's thousands. I agree the door dash and eating out every meal by most is dumb but the costs of rent and other goods is so much higher now
