so the median home buyer in 2007 was 39 years old...what is the rush for someone under the age of 29 to buy a home?

when was that menu? those prices look a bit low.

A 30 year old making more than the overall national income can’t afford either one of those.
You’d need $50k liquid, minimum, even if you could afford the mortgage payment

You can't see the societal effects that come with the average homebuyer being nearly 60 years old?
its more the average age of first time buyers going from early 30s to 38 that is more alarming
renting in a decent school zone and something big enough to have a family in is more expensive than a mortgage payment
a lot of people want to get their shite together before having kids. Keep pushing that back and it is harder to get pregnant. I have said 100x, can someone tell me how i can make money investing into IVF

Imagine thinking there’s nothing wrong with a 2/1 house that not even updated being 300 fricking thousand dollars. I mean, what the frick?

How many rental properties do you own? You are awfully defensive against the idea that most people would rather own their place than rent if they could.

but these are all hypotheticals...maybe the 30 year old single guy have been saving his butt off since he started working 8 years prior...maybe he doesn't have a car payment because he was able to make his previous car work.
not sure about this person's student loan situation...
but there are thousands of homes under $300k in the western side of Harris County...

That's an old menu and prices are higher now. Starbucks has a whole bean coffee menu now that the cheapest option is $17. Spending $10 on coffee there now is not hard to do.

Which is a whole other point about how it is much more difficult today. Many families did well off a single working parent income in the 60s and 70s.

I walked you through it like I would a 5 year old how he, quite literally, couldn’t do that.

There isn’t a single coffee item on the menu that cost $10

I just pulled up online ordering for the starbucks closest to me and I can get a 12oz drip coffee for $2.91.

I also think owning a home before the age of 29 seems far fetched for a single person, even in the past.
I think the big issue here is that GenZ's want to live in specific areas and are opposed to living further away from the action...

if you are buying bags of coffee at Starbucks i can't help you. 3lb bags at Costco are $20
even with the updated menu, spending $10 on a cup of coffee at Starbucks means you are obese and add a ton of stuff

Somewhat related to this discussion it's humorous that there is a boomer poster on the poliboard who's whole schtick is that he gets coffee at starbucks 365 days a year and has been doing that for decades.

I don’t know why you think what you think matters. We know the answer to this, and you’re just wrong. What are we doing here? Crazy shite

Not wanting to spend 10-15 hours a week commuting to your job seems like a reasonable position

that could be $100,000 salary and never had any debt and lives within his means...that person for sure can afford those homes...again, you can cherry pick examples and so can I...
quote:wow...the horror!
If you are a successful STEM professional, you can look forward to commuting an hour plus each way

So you either want people living with their parens until they are 25 to 30, or for them to get out and rent for 10 plus years. I dont think either of those is a worthy aspiration for society.
