If this law passes and JBE’s fiddle fricking around with setting a vote on this results in the whole parish getting to vote on the incorporation, you will see a LOT of support being thrown to his opponents.

Eddie Rispone is a huge SG supporter. Between the ITEP debacle and this, he's going to hammer JBE

ETA: State constitution

Exactly

La. has scores of cities. Some parishes have multiple cities. Some cities are in two parishes.

SG leadership takes the challenge presented to them by Democrats in the parish and decides to try and incorporate.

The resulting backlash from city hall would make one think that we were radicals, and were trying to withdraw from the union, but all we are doing is exercising our constitutional right and doing what four other cities in EBR did and what scores of others did state wide.

Even the Advocate sees how insane this "change the rules" deal is. That's saying something.

The constant lies, disingenuity, and underhanded tactics by the opposition tells me all I need to know. I live squarely in Baton Rouge and I support the people of St. George 100%.

St. George is the life jacket as far as Baton Rouge is concerned

He may, but those are all Baton Rouge issues. I don't know if he has enough votes outside the Capital area to win.

Once basketball is over and state politics becomes the talk, Eddie needs to make a big move to introduce himself to a lot of folks.

Hopefully he has laid the groundwork for this.

Name recognition isn't a precursor to victory. Same was said about Dave Treen, Kathleen Blanco, Mike Foster

Hmmm

quote:

Dave Treen

Was a South LA Congressman for 8 years. Previously ran for governor. Wasn't running against an incumbent.

quote:

Kathleen Blanco

Was Lt. Governor and mayor of a large Southwest LA city. Wasn't running against an incumbent.

quote:

Mike Foster

Was a state senator. Had a lot of money (just like Rispone). Didn't run against an incumbent, but was able to run against the corruption of the outgoing governor.

The only parallel that has any sort of weight is with Foster, and even that is a major stretch. Foster made the runoff with 26% vote (and led all people on the primary ballot.) He got hot late in the game when he switched to the GOP. His political experience gave him a base of operations. And... once he switched to the GOP, he ran a great campaign.

My concern is with Rispone running against an incumbent, and having less recognition, if he has enough time to make up the difference.

A little, but not much.

Valid points. Rispone would not have to win, he would just need to create the doubt that loses JBE moderate votes.

I believe he has time, but he doesn’t have time to screw up, change his message, and win.

He needs to get off to a fast start and show people that don’t know him that he is a qualified outsider that can effect change from the top down.

It got more complicated when city hall went kamikaze on the city. Then it became more than just about schools. I knew we were being screwed.
