The 1950s were arguably the best decade in the USA

The war was over and there was massive economic growth. Very little societal turmoil. Huge advances in technology. Sounds like such a great time.

The 60s were more prosperous. 50's had a couple of recessions.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
I'm sure it was a lovely time if you were lucky to be in the upper classes and white.

Everything I know about the 1950s is because of back to the future.so yeah seems like a kick arse decade.

The adults were adults, and family was the center of society. Those things are bad, now, according to those who have the mic.

If tiger woods was 21 in 1950 he would have been caddying the Masters instead of winning it
“Best” decade….

Tax cuts in the 60s led to growth.

…you may be thinking, “But wait a minute. The 1950s, that was the greatest economic era ever. That’s when everybody had a job. Those jobs were for life. People got to live in suburbia and go on vacation and do all sorts of amazing things. It was post-war prosperity, right?” Actually, all of these things are myths. In the 1950s, the United States suffered four recessions. There was one in 1949, 1953, 1957, 1960 – four recessions in 11 years. The rate of structural unemployment kept going up, all the way up to 8% in the severe recession of 1957-58. …there wasn’t significant economic growth in the 1950s. It only averaged 2.5 percent during the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Tax cuts in the 60s led to growth.

upper classes.
The greatest middle-class advancement came in the 1950s. Especially with the increase in manufacturing and non-farm production.

Definitely not. The United States reached its economic and cultural zenith in the 1990s. It's been down hill since 9/11.

Things weren't perfect in the 50's by any means however I do believe overall it was the most stable time for our society all the way up to the early 60's.

I'm currently re-watching Mad Men.

That is awesome and it's great that the advancements came along but the world was much different as Europe was in shambles because of WW2. Those days are never coming back.
My statement still holds true. Again, nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

How so? We were embroiled in a major war in Korea for the first three years of the decade and were beginning to get more and more involved in Vietnam as the decade closed. The Civil Rights Movement was getting started and being met with deadly violence in the Deep South. There were four major recessions which gripped the nation during that period which stunted economic growth. Plus you had the Second Red Scare that divided the two major political parties and led to increased tensions between us and the Soviet Union. And you had the constant fear of nuclear war with the USSR on top of it all.

I came of age in the 1950s and can attest it was a great time. The decline of the USA started in the mid-1960s with LBJ's Great Society.
