Well we live in a society where being a father is crucial to the success of your offspring. I can’t imagine a case where I’d never want to be a father to my own child. It’s time to bring men back. Being a man is so much more than spackling some girls guts.

You want to be a man? Be a dad when it’s hard and it fricking sucks. Put your kids needs before your own desires. This is what dads do.

Yikes. This reeks of someone trying to convince themselves they’re glad they got dumped.

Biologically, almost certainly not

Society and biology go hand in hand on this one. The ‘spread your seed’ instinct is an evolutionary remnant that is mostly unneeded for Homo sapiens, hence nearly every sociological system (created by males), seeking to supress it.

Homo Sapiens have a tremendous amount of sexual dimorphism, since we have oversized heads that are still under developed at birth, compensated by nature’s least-ready musculoskeletal system.

If we were ‘meant’ to be single, the females in our species would be like most others in the animal kingdom - i.e. they would be just as big, strong, and fast as the males.

But no, our offspring are useless for an extraordinary amount of time, and require so much special care that we tend to only have one of them at a time (barring a not-too-rare abnormality resulting in two). For the species to do what all good species do - procreate to the point of dominance, our adult females must spend a disproportionate amount of time tending to our young. The counter to that is our males have a unique role in hunting and defense.

The same would happen to dogs if they had puppies one at a time that literally could not walk for 2 years, and it took another 10+ years after that before they hit doggy puberty and could even attempt to keep up with the rest of the pack.

We went like this for 10’s of thousands of years. Only in the past few centuries has society evolved to the point where entire livelihoods can had that don’t require any hunting, physical strength for defense, and eventually - access to more communal children raising options. In additions Homo sapiens role as nature’s dominant species is not at all in question, meaning it’s not an evolutionary disaster to maintain a low birth rate for the time being.

End result, NOW it’s possible, and not disastrous to our species, to live in a perpetual state of immaturity. It’s still not a good idea to raise kids this way though.

I beg to differ about the “not disastrous to our species” part.

The “perpetual state of immaturity“ in which a not-insignificant percentage of our population has wallowed over the past half century seems to be showing its effects. The non-zero possibility of societal collapse in the US would have potentially devastating global effects. Sure, it wouldn’t wipe out humanity, but it would put an enormous damper on human progress (as well as population).

Of course there would likely be long-term advantages to such a collapse. But the short- and intermediate-term effects would not be pretty.
