I think she wanted the drama & y’all did exactly right by letting her know that y’all were fine with her rules
I do think it unreasonable to not let them in the garage unless they are known for destroying things

Nah. I love her. I’m very fortunate in the in-law department and hope my wife and her can patch it up.

She just rigid about some things and we changed the “arrangement” on her.

Sounds like you were the opposite of the a-hole here.

You are fine. She is too rigid. Ridiculously so. They can't stay in the garage? She is the bad guy.

I would have done the same as you, but do you not have crates to keep the dogs in overnight? I figured the SIL would have been OK with dogs in crates in the garage, but perhaps not even that.
I wouldn't leave the dogs outside under any weather circumstances, due to their barking or even worse, digging out and their getting lost.

She was not rude for sticking to the rules she laid out, you were not rude for leaving. She was wrong for getting butthurt about it.
My house is a dog free zone. Some people have a problem with that, but that is their problem.

I’m not a dog guy really but not letting them in the garage seems like an a-hole move.

But you obviously know more than I do and I commend your level headed attitude

Tiny submission
At my cousins. Great grandparents are there and are super old.
Uncle brings home new girlfriend. Shes black. Great grandparents ask her to get them a coke (they're like 90 and have walkers)... she gets super pissed and leaves.

Other uncle shows up with wife AND ex-wife.
At this point I'm out of the loop with my family and ask him whats going on. He's stationed in Texas somewhere living with his wife, but apparently he's back together with the ex wife down here. They're both fine with it and waiting to see who his decision will be. I was told it was in bad taste to say it was like the bachelor in real life.

Maybe she felt guilty by placing her rules about dogs over family? No need for her to be upset - hence, guilty feeling

She said she thought we were choosing our dogs over family, which I think isn’t a fair argument.

Wife finally fell asleep after being torn up all night. Hope they talk tomorrow and can figure it out. If not Christmas is going to suck.

Well, she set the stage for that to be a possible outcome and was given two options.....she placed herself above pets and family

Lost a game of ticket to ride that i was sure i had won after all the points were tallied. I didnt accept the defeat though due to the fact that if we only counted the legal trains i won. My mother had a lot of illegitimate trains

I just had sex with my girl 4 different ways in her hot tub.

I'm 42, she's 39, and her 74 yr old mother was sleeping on the couch just inside the house, about 30 ft away.

To clarify, this is her mom's house... so, not trashy

What say you OT?
You were in the right. You followed her rules and went to a place (home) where your dogs were safe. She (SIL) needs to get over it.
