We had faux T-Giving yesterday as some of the family travels for the holiday.

IT
DID
NOT
SUCK

Certainly beats Arbor Day, V-E Day, Stonewall Jackson's Birthday, etc... as a holiday.

Do people actually pay attention to the "religious roots" of thanksgiving?

This holiday has religious roots also. It really seems like more of a footnote now each year with even that stupid ‘Black Friday’ hype overshadowing it. Perhaps intentionally due to its religious history.

Religious roots? What, because the pilgrims were seeking freedom to practice whatever religion they wanted?

Definitely no where near the religious holiday that Easter and Christmas are, and more along the lines of Halloween, which isn't that religious either.

As for why it's forgotten...well, because it's not a commercialized holiday. Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, New Years...all commercialized. Best they could do with Thanksgiving was turkeys and Black Friday.

Thanksgiving is my personal favorite holiday. Food, drinks then recliner football and a nice nap with a full belly. This will be the first without my Grandma, who was always asking me if I was ready for a Jack and 7 at 10 am.

Originally from NOLA which makes my statement even stronger. All the good food we have around and people are really gonna pretend to be that excited over sweet potatoes...cranberry shite??... the most meh use of oysters I've ever seen?... cajun fried turkey is the shite so I'll exclude that.

I always say...if thanksgiving food was worth a shite it would get cooked more than once a year...but it doesn't...

You mean the day that the evil white man stole the Indigenous peoples' land?
Actually the Pilgrims traded the Indians guns for corn, then the Indians shot the Pilgrims, and took back the corn.

I love Thanksgiving. I hate the stupid regulation that a bank can't be closed more than 3 consecutive days, so every year I have to burn a vacation day if I want off on Black Friday. Not a huge deal, but when my kids only go to school 2 days, I'm already using one on Wednesday so we can travel.

Way better than Halloween. Instead of a long night of walking around so the kids get candy, we get multiple days off work and school, get to see family, eat, football, drink, and relax. Plus I usually con my wife into cooking her dressing since it is better than all the old women in our family who have forgotten how to cook the big meal.

Thanksgiving is my favorite too. First, it falls on a Thursday and my boss likes a pre-holiday day off and a post-holiday day off, so I get a nice 5 day weekend. Then you have all of the awesome food. I'm a sucker for casserole-type foods, so Thanksgiving food is heaven for me.

Throw in all the great wine you get to drink for 2-3 days straight, leftovers, our Black Friday beer-hunting and drinking traditions.. Then LSU on Saturday.. Oh, and the Macy's parade..

Thanksgiving is awesome.

I ask my wife to make it more often but for some reason she doesn't want to spend 12 hours making dinner.

I like Thanksgiving. Macy's parade and then normally just drinking and eating all day. What's not to love.

Plus it's always a 4-day weekend mixed in with some LSU football.

Look at it from a different view....less family drama to deal with. My mother in law has been weird as frick lately over the holidays so I'm not really looking forward to Thursday walking on eggshells with her.

You have any friends having a Misfits Thanksgiving? I did that a couple of years when I first moved to AZ and didn't have a SO to spend Thanksgiving with. It was fun. Just a bunch of friends eating and drinking that didn't go home for the holiday for whatever reason.

Isn’t Thanksgiving when you railed your sister-in-law in the chili bowl while the rest of the family was eating?

Passed her the gravy next to the stairs if I remember right.
