Textbook price gripe

I had to get a computer programming textbook for a class I'm taking this summer. I checked on Amazon, and they had it for $38 used, but it would've taken 2 weeks to get here, so I scrapped that idea. The only other place to get the book on short notice was the UNO bookstore. That mother fricker was $161 used and $92 to rent.
Is UNO raking in an extra $120 on that deal? If not, who does?
Another book was $220 new on Amazon, and $390 at UNO. Wtf?

At least you have an amazon option. The bookstore put a gun to your head when I was in school.

Is it an important class? I have actually had to rebuy some of the engineering books I had in college once I got to the real world. Notably steel and wood design.

I rented a book this past semester and went to return it one day late because I wasn't in town. They had already charged me $220 (full price of the book) and wouldn't let me return it for a refund. I just chalked it up to the game though.

Just don't spill coffee on that rental....
Most things on Amazon are cheaper since they don't have to pay rent on a building or payroll for employees.

Quit school. Education is vastly overrated and doesn't payoff anyway. Besides, my landscaper just got deported and I need a new one.

I always got the international version. It's amazing how much cheaper even a new book can be just because they know American universities aren't using them. Only difference was homework problems and I never did my homework anyway

Have you checked ebay? I always bought the international version of the same text for my science classes at a fraction of the price and they got here quick.

Have you not ever paid for books for college before ever? Are you a 1st year Freshman? Or perhaps did you lose a scholarship?
College textbooks have been a total ripoff for decades if not scores now, brah. This isn't a new phenomenon.

Needed them on short notice because of summer school. Didn't even know what books I needed until a couple of days before the classes started

This was definitely the case, but usually, the teacher provided solutions to your homework assignments before an exam, so I had that to study off of. And if you can't convert between SI and English units, you are going to have some problems. The understanding of the material is fundamental. The units are just a small part of the understanding. I got through probably 20-30% of my engineering classes with SI versions of the textbook.
